Damn, I just checked the price on Amazon UK. Vista Premium is £225. I guess its XP for now until the price drops (fingers crossed) or when there's a OEM version.

Have you used it? If you had, you'd know the "looks" make it perform worse than a machine loaded with spyware and viruses.

Interestingly, if you turn off all the crap, it performs almost as well as an XP machine.

I'm curious, though, if anyone has come up with any technical reasons to upgrade. As far as I can tell, the only major benefit Vista offers is a graphical make-over. Microsoft's reasons on their web site are all either lame or easily emulated in XP with the help of free tools (or better tools). There are some corporate reasons ... but all the problems of compatability make corporate rollouts unlikely (in the near-term).

I do have the Vista Beta, but IMO, it's not very good. It kinda reminds me of Mac OS X for some reason. Yes, it's better than XP, but not by that much

I voted 'yes' coz' I don't really think that anyone has a choice. However, if the upgrade is anything like the WM5, I think I'll sit this out until the dust settles down some.

It will be like wm5, even if it will look "amazing". Under the hood there will be loads of crap.

The problem is if directx10 will be vista-only.

I'll be sticking with XP. It does what I need it to do, so I'm happy.

My kids computer is still running 98 :hide:

I would get it, but only if I can get a copy for like 40$ tops, not point in reinstalling just half my games cause none support the new OS.

I heard that vista will only let you upgrade your computer only one time.(hardware)

If so, that's ridiculous. That's just another way Micro$oft controls the world's pocketbook.

I can't wait until Vista!
I think Microsoft finally got it right with this one (Beta user with some knowledge).

That WAS the case, but the terms have been modified, and no longer the case as you mentioned above. Well, it is the case for OEM but not the "bought" versions.
