Seems Microsoft is going to release Windows Vista pretty soon (January i think). With 6 different editions, up from 2 when XP was released (media center and tablet came later). What are you anticipations, expectations, thoughts on that? (Poll question)Would you upgrade? What do you think about those different versions?
It has been around 5 years since MS released an operating system.
I apologize if this question has been asked before.
I'll be sticking with my Mac. Nothign wrong (IMHO) with Windows and you won't find me bashing Microsoft all over the place (Unless you want to talk about the Zune and then I'll start up the flame thrower), but I just don't see the need to deal with Microsoft and the multiple different versions, the extremely limited licensing restrictions they are imposing, and the incessant bug finding that the early adopters will have to deal with.
If anyone recalls it was a long time before XP was half-way decent after it was released, and SP1 broke a ton of stuff... I've had my headaches with Windows - I'm a sys admin so I get more than my fair share - so I'll keep OSx running at home. It works and has many of the features Vista "has".

I freakin' hate Microsoft and their plans to conquer the planet with crappy software (windows server 2003 MIGHT be an exception, but that would be it), but the darn game developers refuse to go the brilliant way - All games being able to run on a linux gaming platform (If you game developers hadn't figured that one out yet - There you go), so I probably HAVE to upgrade to Vista to be able to play DirectX 10-games. BUT I FREAKIN' HATE IT!

As a techy kind of person, I doubt very much that I'll be able to avoid going the Vista way. I've played with the beta somewhat, and like it a lot. My brain would say "be cautious, wait and see", but my heart will say "ooh, new stuff to play with, get it!". The latter will probably win out fairly quickly.

I love one side polls. I use multiple machines some windows, some linux, some other (not even pc based). I will be getting a VISTA becuase I have too, I will use it from time to time, but it is not my first machine, not even a second or third.
im going to be forced to upgrade wheather i like it or not (in my case NOT) the reason being is that my clients are goinjg to start using vista and i need to know as much as i can to be able to help them...

Chewey,
Windows XP (Professional and Home) have been incredibly stable and reliable on all the machines I own and the ones I use at the office. If I buy a new machine that comes with Vista, that will be fine - but unless Vista has something that is just incredible that I can't live without then my existing systems will continue to run XP. I'm sure that Vista will be excellent - but this is (at this present time) truly a solution looking for a problem - at least in my particular case.
As I said ... unless it just presents some item that I've got to have there's just no reason to upgrade - yet.

I tend to be a fairly fast adopter of Microsoft software: I like the new Office 2007, I adopted XP very quickly (and like it), and generally have no problems being on the bleeding edge. I've been testing Vista for qutie some time. At work I'll likely continue to use it.
At home, I'll resist until Microsoft comes up with something which doesn't make me feel like I'm NOT the administrator, until I get a new PC with it pre-installed, or until I'm forced to upgrade to play a game.
But as it stands, half the time Vista feels like cripple-ware ... the other half the time it has a ton of stuff I don't want and can't uninstall (Indexing, for one).
