Pop woman (from Midwest) living in a Coke world (the South). I worked in a convenience store in my younger days in very south Mississippi (I don't live there anymore :rolling: ). The following conversation confused me for a very long time:
"Do you want a coke?"
"Yup."
"What kind?"
"7-up."

the correct short form for soft drinks is "coke". I live in atl where it all started. so I am fully qualified to say that all you guys are wrong.
I went to the world of coke, okay lol
but yeah, when we talk about soft drinks in general we say coke. like "hey i'm going to the store do you want some coke?" now there is 3 choices from this point. 1 decline, 2 just say yes(which by default you mean coca-cola) or 3 you can say yes(then fill in the blank, to choose your soft drink of choice).

"Cold drink," pronounced "Cole drank."
Although, I normally list the available flavors (diet Dew, Code Red, Diet Coke, Dr. Pepper...).

From Long Island also, Merrick. Pop is Dad, although Dad is my preferred.
Pop-Pop might be a grandfather, my grandaughter calls me Pop-Pop. :approve:

In eastern Massachusetts we call it Soda but mostly when ordering a drink I ask if they have Pepsi products and then order a root beer.

It's all pop. Even the beer. That's barley-pop (just as a running gag). And when I'm feeling facetious I'll ask if anybody wants a sooooodaaaaa.
but yeah, everything is pop. even grape.
except for soda. but that's clear and bubbly and has no flavor. IT also comes in powder form.

I usually just call it by the brand or flavor (Coke, dew, orange, root beer). If I'm referring to multiples, I call it soda...
"Hey, I'm going to the store... do you want me to pick up any soda?"

'Round these parts it's called SODA (Tazewell, Tennessee)
'Round my hometown it's called POP (Ann Arbor,Michigan)
COKE, that's only said when referring to Cocaine (Tazewell, TN)
SodiePop....heard alot (Charlotte, NC)
Point is: the usage depends on the area/locale.
I usually just say "I'm goin for a drink" :)
