Well now, the planets have aligned...luck is smiling on me/family...guess what happened yesterday? Larry surprised us with a 13 day Carnival Cruise leaving THIS sunday...woo-hoo...(yes, initially, i DID fall over)...dilemma? I don't really remember the last/only one cruise, circa 1999 (?)...hmm..wonder (rum) why? ... so, i need advise ... any tidbit ... my initial concern is (mom mode) should i get a meningitis vaccine for the kidinkles? and water, we're FREAKS for drinking only purified water, @ the very least 32 oz a day...do I bring water bottles to make sure we have? and do they supply toiletries like hotels? anything else?
* so i'm anal, so what? :) i still  you....
ps wasn't it sweet of Larry? Lauren is a junior, so by the time i blink she'll be gonzo to college and busy w/life and Julian being 11, well, he'll be putting up the walls to keep us away soon(not that i'll let him ... but Larry thought we needed a good bonding trip @ this point in our lives and to surround Thanksgiving (in Tortola BVI )...i just really got misty...i love it when men 'think'...
so, had enough? :yeah: i'm finally done...
love, ANJ
MrK my love, your mermaid is goin' out to sea, expect to see you upon my return.. xo
There's not a lot you really need to take with you (provision-wise) on those cruises; particularly food and drinks. We've been on 3 cruises (not one as long as 13 days, tho.). About all you really need is your clothes, camera and stuff like that. You just don't need to take all that much along.

I'd suggest going to the cruise line's WEB site and see what they recommend. Every line is a little different. Some have all casual meals, while others are coat and tie for evening meals. Some have the bottled water and some don't. Toiletries are not normally provided. Most lines don't have hair driers in the rooms either. For the ladies that tends to be a must. Vaccinations are probably up to you. Depending on where you're going, you may need passports. Although, most places don't. Also keep in mind the weather. While it's definitely warmer, you may need lightweight jackets this time of year.
Where are you leaving from? Port Canaveral? You should definitey have fun on a 13 day cruise. The longest I've taken is 7 days. They do keep you busy though.
Head over to cruisecritic.com and find the forums. You will find everything you need to know. Stuff to do in each port, how to book excursions without going through the ship ($$$), what to do on the ship (and what to avoid), etc...
I have been on many cruises, and I always frequent that board before I go.:)

If anyone is prone to seasickness, maybe on of those patches behind the ear. We've been on three cruises and never had any problems with seasickness or any issues otherwise (except for being hassled in Jamaica, but that is normal!)
Have a wonderful time! Don't eat too much!!! That's the biggest temptation -- food everywhere all the time! Oh and watch out for that liquor bill shoved under your door the last night!
Way to go Larry! You make the rest of us look like heels!

Do get the patches for seasickness.I always wear the patch but my wife never needed them untill our Alaska cruise last Sept.We endured 40 foot waves and she and most of the crew was sick.
Have a GREAT TIME. No crusie advice, but checking out the forums seems like a good idea.
Just wanted to put in my 2p worth about family vacations. They are great. We started in the "awkward" (terrible teens) years not really knowing what to expect through the grunts and groans that passed for communication during that time.
The grunts and groans gave way to communnication and the vacations have continued for a dozen years or so. )It doesn't hurt that mom and dad pay, but who's being picking. New schedules and new responsibilities for ithe kiddoes mean we won't be able to do it this coming year. We are all bummed about it, and indeed we are still scheming. so enjoy it while you can.
oh, and did I say...HAVE A GREAT TIME. see ya soon.
Wife and I have been on 15 cruises, that last was to Alaska in August (rainy but no 40 ft waves!). Most of ours have been to the Caribbean because I like it hot and sunny. If you're going somewhere warm on Carnival and your husband likes baking in the sun, make sure you send him to the uppermost deck. It's the topless deck (quieter up there ). My only advice about seasickness (barring 40 ft waves), if you think you'll be sick and dwell on the possibility, you probably will be sick.
