I was checking my blood pressure today (first time in a LONG time, but I checked it twice for good measure) and my readings were 138 over 70 with a pulse rate of 62 and then a few minutes later 139 over 66 with a pulse rate of 64. The 138/139 numbers seemed a little high to me, along with the pulse pressure readings of around 70.
I'm in ok shape, I get some exercise and my BMi is around 22-23. (5'6 and 140ish lbs). And I'm 31.
I was wondering if there was a relationship between the pulse pressure and pulse rate, and if I should be concerned about it.
I figured I'd see the doctor anyway - but there are probably a billion people on this forum alone that know more about this stuff than I do.
I figured that my pulse rate should average 72, although being slightly lower is probably not a concern. But is 62 or 64 too low? And is that related to the higher systolic value and the pulse pressure?

atheletic people have pulse rates around 60 or a little less that is good and to have a top reading that is a little high with a low pulse rate means you have a strong heart muscle imho but im no expert or no doctor
Your a little high but fine. That is normal for me also. Might want to have cholesteral checked, I'm on vytorin and go to the doctor every six months for bloodwork. Its not a straight pump speed vrs hose preasure relationship. The body can do other things to regulate preasure. Also those home measuring things don't seem to reliable, everytime I check it on my mothers I get 150/90. If your concerned have the Corp Nurse check it.
As a very, very general rule for people under 40, the top number of your BP should be 100 + your age. Family history, diet, excercise, stress...etc. all come in to play.

I'm a shrink, but I do remember a little "real" medicine. :)
Your BP was not bad. The systolic (first number) was a little high, but the diastolic (2nd number) is the one that's more correlated with arterial disease, heart attack, stroke, etc. If you eat lots of salt, that could contribute to a higher systolic pressure. Your pulse is NOT too low. As axilla pointed out, the more athletic and "in shape" you are, the lower the resting pulse. That's just a sign of a strong heart not having to work as hard.
However, get a checkup, including cholestrol and other blood work. The body's a complicated thing, and there are so many factors to good health. Keep learning, because the more informed you are while working with a good doc, the better!

Systolic of 138/139 is borderline but not high enough to start meds. Diastolic of 70 is fine. Best thing to do is reduce your intake of salts. And increase your exercise - 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise is ideal.
Of course you need to take more readings on different days at different times to get an accurate picture of what your BP is - can't tell just on one reading.
As already noted, heart rate of 64 is fine - athletic people tend to have lower heart rates since their heart is more efficient and can pump more blood volume per contraction.
there is some famous Discovery channel hiker that does these like 100 mile foot races. He has a resting heart rate of like 42. So just becuase it is low means that it is bad. I would ask if you were worried though.
