The Lord Giveth, and the Lord Taketh again

Well my pride and joy, my beautiful brand new X30 is stolen. I left it in our car because we were running in to a gas station to get sodas, and I came out and someone had picked the lock on our car and took my dad's laptop and my beloved X30. I also had the X5 with me, but I had it in under the seat, so they didn't find it, I don't know how. I'm crying. I'm not going to lie, I'm actually crying. And I JUST BOUGHT SOME OF THOSE STUPID STUFFBAK THINGEES!

Well, time to go on the PDAhunt again :bang: :bang:

Sorry about the theft. That would burn me up. Have your dad check with your insurance company for coverage. I imagine a laptop and pda would be significantly more than the deductable.

Good luck!

how does someone pick a lock at a gas station without being noticed? sorry to hear about the bad news.

I always hide my stuff in my car and lock it, that or just trash the car(you know old cups and bags from various fast food restaruants and dirty clothes and what not, that way it'll slow them down alot plus it'll turn off alot of would be theives.)

And the 9mm just isn't a good idea around flammable liquids.

I don't know how they did it, and it's way more than the deductible, my dad's laptop was a $1000 macbook that he had, and of course, HE had insurance on it, so he got the money to buy a new laptop, but I didn't put insurance on my PDA. So my dad's got his laptop back at least, but as for me, I'm back to my old X5. Oh well, it at least still works, most of the time. This is my first theft of anything, and it's really shame on me because I forgot to hide the darn thing, I dunno why I didn't, but we were in the gas station for less than 2 minutes, those thieves must have been F.A.S.T! I dunno how they did it without being seen either, but clearly they did. Security camera tapes didn't show anything either, because the security cameras don't cover the area where we parked. We were in this little parking lot behind the gas station, so that's probably how they did it, I just wonder why they selected our car rather than a different one, because we have dark tinted windows that practically block anyone from seeing inside the car. Oh, well, it could have been my laptop, which would have been a much bigger loss.

I'd guess that it was accidentally left unlocked. Most likely an opportunistic thief just tried the door, it was open so they grabbed the stuff and left.

That sucks though.

Sorry to hear about the theft....

One time I accidentally locked my keys in my car and had to call a locksmith. He came out and used a tool that looked like a long spoon that was left out in traffic for a while - he popped the door open quicker than I could with the key... blew me away

It's called a slim jim. They reach down through where the window goes when it's open and feel around for the locking mechanism. Then POP.... It's really fast, especially if you know how to use it. If you don't know how to use it then it's probably really slow. Not that I'd steal anything, but I kinda wish I had one.

Well, to go a long with with this being the first thing stolen is pretty amazing. I just had my license plates stolen in Germany. =/ If you looking for a new one, I'd keep my eye on the Dell website. I think they'll have that x51v for $255 before too long.

Nope, wasn't a slimjim....
was rigid, not flexible and was shaped like 1/2 of a swastika with a hump in the middle kinda like items D & E below
and it didn't go down between the door skin and the window like a slimjim, instead he went thru the triangular vent window and hit the power doorlock button....

I got a new PDA :)I was browsing Craig's List (In case some of you guys don't know it's a free online classifieds listing site (www.craigslist.org) and is city-based, so you select your city and you look for people selling stuff locally) and I saw a modded dare I say it... Palm Lifedrive. It had an 8GB Microdrive in it replacing the old 4GB, so that was a nice bonus, and he only wanted $320 for it. I still kinda like ppc, so I'll be keeping my X5, but only as a second PDA. The Palm's just have too nice of features, even though Pocket PCs have more software and are more high-tech, I think a Palm would suit my needs. So, in case anyone asks, yes I'm staying here at aximsite, I won't be a total misfit, I still have my X5 so I just had to tell you guys.
