Have any of you had carpal tunnel surgery? I'm having it done in my dominent hand before the new year and I was wondering how long recovery took. I'm trying to plan ahead and get some meal in the freezer so dh doesn't have so much to do.
hey sweetie, if you're having ct surgery that means you're in pain and you wanna add to that an all night cooking bender for dh?? ever heard of taking it easy so you don't overly irritate it b4 surgery?
Wendy, peruse the frozen foods aisle, they even have organic!! But please, take care of yourself ! Spaghetts are easy for dh, soup etc..he'll be fine...don't do anymore damage to your wrist!
God Bless darlin', get better, take care of yourself !

I haven't had the surgery, but was the worker's comp coordinator in my last job. Recovery time is at least 6 weeks, probably 8 to 10 before you can use the hand. AnnamariaNJ is right, from what I've heard, it's pretty painful, but it does provide relief.
Good Luck and hope all goes well.
I've known people that have had it and it wasn't a big deal. Why are you worrying about cooking etc, aren't there others there who can take care of it?

I don't want dh to have to worry about the cooking...he'll have his hands full w/the kids.

I just want to know what to expect.....
Thats fair enough if you've got little ones.
My sister in law had it done some years back and as I recall it took some time to get back to normal but she was still able to function in the mean time, you just won't be able to do everything.
Good luck with it.
Seems the recovery was longer than required, milking the insurance I am sure.
God speed, and take care. It'll be the DH's job to watch over the children and
the household chores. 'Bout time too! He might even enjoy the challenge!

Seems like my wife was off a couple of weeks and it was several more before her hand was back to 100%. I'll have to ask her for sure. She relied on me for awhile when she had hers done. Glad you have someone to help and are preparing for things before.
The thing I remember the most was how much we both realized you use either both hands or else your dominant hand to do. That is, until you can't.
My Mum had it done when she was in her 70s and it took her a long time (about 2 months or so) and quite a bit of physio to get it all back but she is more than 100% now and one of the things that was quoted to her at the time was
"Recurrence of carpal tunnel syndrome following treatment is rare. The majority of patients recover completely."
All the best and God speed.
