I've had this Samsung for a couple of weeks now. I definitely consider XM worth the 13-bucks-per-month - plenty of options to choose from. I'm constantly recording songs (especially old ones I haven't heard in years) so I've got a growing collection of favorites to play. As I get sick of 'em I delete them and record others in their place so I've always got an hour or two stored on the thing to listen to when I want to. Very nice.

The cradle/antenna sits on the desk at the office during the week and on the desk at home on the weekends. Decent reception in both places. Very cool unit - especially for the cheap cost.

-CB :)

FRUNKIS!
I listen to nothing but music channels. I don't listen to talk radio at all. I also have called XM on the issue and clear channel has more than 6 channels try around 20 now. the top 20 has so many commercials it sucks. I actually just bought a mp3 player and subscribed to Napster. I am going that route for my music see how that all works out before I get rid of XM, so far the mp3 player in the car beats xm hands down.

The biggest argument for XM (or any radio, with a good station) vs mp3 or the world's best cd collection: with mp3 or cd you'll never be surprised by what you hear! ;)

Inno Refurbished

I found some factory refurbished units on Ebay for around $140 which is about half the price or more than buying a brand new one. I have bought other refurbished electronics in the past and haven't had any problems. Anyone have any experience with the Pioneer Inno refurbished unit?

I bought my wife a refurbished Inno from MyRadioStore.com for Xmas. The first one would not take a charge. The second one seems fine. The 1 gb storage for XM recordings and MP3s is great.

Ive been with sat radio almost since year one. I have both XM and Sirius and four radios for two people. I intend to cancel the Sirius radio and one XM and get myself a Inno.

One caveat, myradiostore refused to reimburse me for shipping. Good vendors supply customers with prepaid return labels for returning goods that are defective out of the box. Customers shouldn't have to pay for their lack of quality control. It is adding insult to injury.

Froogle up your best price.

Sirius pays Howard Stern $83 mln stock bonus

Quote:
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sirius Satellite Radio paid shock jock Howard Stern a bonus worth nearly $83 million on Tuesday for surpassing subscriber goals set in a 2004 contract that had already turned heads with its $500 million compensation package.

The freewheeling and ribald Stern joined Sirius one year ago, jumping from the FM dial where he rose to become one of radio's biggest stars but frequently bridled at government indecency regulations and ties with his corporate bosses.

His defection marked a turning point for the nascent business of satellite radio, with both Sirius and larger rival XM Satellite Radio paying millions more to sign on other talent and attract listeners to their subscriber model.

Sirius had roughly 600,000 subscribers when it signed Stern in 2004 for a contract valued at $500 million over five years.

At the time, analysts had forecast the company would grow to about 3.5 million subscribers by the end of 2006. Sirius and Stern agreed to an added bonus in the event that the number of subscribers exceeded that forecast by more than 2 million.

Last week, the company reported that it ended 2006 with more than 6 million subscribers, at the middle of a forecast range made in December, triggering the bonus payment of about 22.1 million shares. Sirius closed at $3.76 on Tuesday.

If I were a stockholder...

If I were a Sirius stockholder, I would reply in a way that would make the Nardelli firing at Home Depot look mild. Whose damn money do they think they're giving away like that, while the stock is IN THE TOILET? WE (stockholders) own the freakin' company (companies), guys! STOCKHOLDERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!

the difference with Sirius is that while the stock is down a bit, subscriber growth is WAY up, deals with partners (like Ford) is up, and the opposition (XM) is down even more.

The money awarded to Stern is based on performance, not as a golden parachute.

That is true (about it being based upon performance), but what a company can afford in the way of UNPROMISED rewads should hinge on the success of the company! If my company's stock price was at under four bucks a share, and my company had NEVER SHOWN A PROFIT (as neither XM nor Sirius have done), I wouldn't expect much of a bonus, regardless of my personal performance. In fact, I've been in just such a situation...personally I was performing, but the company wasn't...we probably all have if we're over the age of 40, and in that situation I (we) didn't expect a large bonus!

The issue here for XM and Sirius, is that there is a subscriber level (x number of millions) that they have to reach in order to become profitable... and the sooner they get there the sooner they will make money.

To complicate that, they have to compete for market share with their competitors. To compete, they have to have have newer better, more trendy radios, better content (Oprah, nascar, nfl, stern) and partners that will help push/market them. All of those things they have pay for up front.

Current market price is influenced by a number of factors, but I guarantee the real difference in the market price between XM and Sirius, is not the equipment or product, but by XM's affiliation with ClearChannel and their holdings.

I just got the Delphi SkiFi3 to replace one of the older Sony systems. So far I love it. It has a micro storage card slot, has a walk around set of headphones and antenna. I got the car and home system and move it daily.

By the way, being an XM subscriber gives you internet access to the music channels, I play it on my laptom everyday at work.
