Hoping someone can help me. I want to buy a satellte radio but really don't know anything about specifically them. I am looking for something that is portable - for use in both my car and home/office. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
first do you want Sirius or XM... 2 different providers, both have the same basic music channels, but each have different "Featured Personalities". For example, Sirius has Howard Stern, Bubba the Love Sponge, Martha Stewart, Nascar, etc. XM has Baseball, Oprah, and Opie and Anthony...
Both have streaming audio, I use SiriusWM5 to listen to Sirius on my Cingular 8525.
Both have dockable radios, so the radios can move between car, house, and boom box. Each provider has an iPod-like portable radio. However, the recievers are different, so you cannot buy an XM radio to hear Sirius broadcasts and vise versa.
Each provider has a similar cost for service.
Each have similarly priced radios per feature
Each has a free trail of internet streaming radio, sign up and channel surf each one, see which one you live the most
The issue is WHO you want to listen to...

Their are rumors of a merger. Both are in financial trouble. But this is just a rumor I read in a trade magazine.

Thanks Rad. I listen mainly to news/talk radio so I guess there's really not much difference in either Sirius or XM service. I looks like they both have much of the same news/talk line-up. This being the case, what about equipment? Is there much difference in the quality of the equipment? I have seen different manufacturers (JVC, Audiovox, Pioneer, etc) and was wondering if one was any better than the other? Thanks for the help!
I would go with Sirius, they seem to have the best equipment, and for news/talk, I think they have more stations. I would go with Pioneer equipment, it seems to be the best quality stuff. Audiovox is also OK, but I prefer Pioneer, but that just my two cents worth.
An intersting piece of info.
I have Jeep, it came with Sirius.
Radio is made by Delphi, this is the intersting part.
Delphi is GM, GM uses XM in their cars. I guess Delphi builds what ever the customer wants, who ever the customer is, and GM just goes to the bank.
I know Delphi is suppose to be independent of GM, but GM has a major portion of the Delphi stock.
I have Sirius, and I do enjoy all the stations, and they keep adding or changing a few now and then. New for 2007 is NASCAR, looking forward to that station.

… and we could add one of those built in generators of electricity that charge back up batteries too for those extended voyages.
Well I would put in my recommendation for XM. Personally, I liked the channel lineup better. You just have to weigh the pros and cons of each and go with the one that you think is more for you. I've been a happy customer with XM for about 2 years now. I will never go back to regular radio.

Actually, Delphi is a totally independent company from GM. They are currently moving to increase their non-GM customer base. They have under-hood and under-dash systems including various electronics, HVAC systems and sound systems on vehicles from just about every OEM.

Not very much.

That is correct. If you check out this product page on their website, they are involved in both Sirius and XM. "Available on Audi, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chevy Truck, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, GMC, Hummer, Pontiac and Volkswagen vehicles."
He's already downloaded a bunch of MP3 files to it with no trouble whatsoever. His dad also got him these headphones... apparently they have a built in antenna that helps with reception indoors

Yeah - I just bought a Samsung "Nexus" (XM) radio a week or so ago and I really like it. I had an extra $100 to spend and have been curious about satellite radio so I took the plunge.
I was getting certifiably sick of the crap on the local radio stations myself. It's worth $13/month to be able to listen to the content I want to when I want to. Highly recommended.
As for who has the most stations - the guy at the store told me that XM has 3 times as many subscribers as Sirius does ... but who knows for sure; I always take sales talk with a HUGE grain-of-salt. Wait ... a huge grain is a brick, isn't it?
Personally, I prefer Sirius, but that may because I'm a Bubba mark

We have XM in our Monte Carlo, and we do love it, so I was looking for an add-on reciever for the truck... I really think that Sirius has the better LOOKING add-on recievers of the two, but thats just my opinion. As far as the Pioneer opinion above? I'd have to agree too. Always loved thier products.
I do keep looing at that Pioneer Inno that OklahomaMama mentioned... great idea! I may just wait til the 2nd generation, and maybe a little more memory, etc.
