Help! Dark laptop

ok...when I used my laptop this afternoon it was working great. I put it into hibernation & left. When I turned it back on tonight, the screen is so dim we have hooked it up to our TV via s-cable to read it. The brightness is normal on the TV, but still dark on the laptop screen. Any ideas?

Try the brightness setting.

Reboot

Replace the backlight, it is mostly busted.

Have you fully rebooted the computer? Also what kind of laptop. My laptop has brightness controls which can be accessed by the function and up and down arrows. Also the display type may have been changed. otherwise, as e-t said, better get a portable TV!

I've tried the brightness keys, no go.

We hooked it up to the kids monitor and if we boot into safe mode, that monitor will show the laptop screen...but if booted normally, neither monitor works.

Tried system restore, that didn't work either.

How much should I expect to pay for a new backlight?

I am studying MS VB05 right now, so if you can give me any tips or need some help on something I would be glad to help(or try).
