Aximsitemobileicon windows vista 64/32 bit ---intel core 2 duo t5600

i recently received a hp dv2000t laptop for christmas. i did the express upgrade to windows vista, and it automatically (i think) ordered the 32 bit version. is he core 2 duo a 32 bit processor? and if it is 64-bit, will the 32 bit os work with it....? it comes with drivers, as i understand.... i am beginning to get worried bout it... if it is compatible and the processor is 64 bit, should i try to get my order changed???- would it be worth the effort?

core 2 duo is an x86 and x64 arc. proc. so yes it certainly is 64bit.

as far as vista goes. install the 32 bit version. dont install 64 right off the bat, you prolly wont be able to find drivers for all of your devices.'

well, i wouldnt install it right away. i was trying to figure out if i shoudl even bother asking them to change my order to 64 bit, becuase i will not upgrade the 32 bit to 64 bit once i get it.

i wouldnt mind waiting to upgrade ... i would rather use the right drivers when they come out... i just would rasther use the 64 bit ( i understand that it is better working)

I thought they were going to have 32 bit and 64 bit on the same CD. What ever happened to that? Maybe they decided not to? I'm going to be ordering XP Pro soon and doing the express Vista upgrade thing too, and might upgrade to 64 bit once I see that my stuff supports it.

I would also like to run 64 bit windows, but I hope I'll convert to linux or unix as soon as the kernel supports my hardware fully.

For most users, 32 bit is the way to go. Unless you have more than 4 gig of memory, and if you are going to run applications that use more than 4 gig of memory, you are better off staying with 32 bit env.

Only a few server applications are written for 64 bit env. It's actually slower to run 32 bit applications on 64 bit OS than on 32 bit operating systems.

Yep. Because the 64 bit OS needs to emulate a 32 bit OS.
