MIAMI - Michael Vick reluctantly surrendered a water bottle to security at Miami International Airport that contained a residue "closely associated with marijuana." Police said Thursday that no charges immediately were filed.
The 26-year-old Atlanta Falcons quarterback entered an airport concourse Wednesday morning with the 20-ounce bottle. He eventually handed it over and boarded his flight to Atlanta. But his initial reluctance to turn over the bottle aroused suspicion among airport security screeners, a police report said.
Two Transportation Security Administration screeners recognized the 6-foot, 215-pound Vick.
The bottle was found to have a hidden compartment that contained "a small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana," the report said. The compartment was hidden by the bottle's label so that it appeared to be a full bottle of water when held upright, police said.
MIAMI - Miami-Dade police are investigating an incident in which Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick allegedly tried to get past airport screeners with a rigged water bottle that may have contained marijuana.
According to a police report, Vick, 26, had been reluctant to turn his 20-ounce bottle over to Transportation Security Administration screeners at Miami International Airport, who found it while X-raying his carry-on luggage Wednesday night. Federal rules prohibit passengers from taking liquid, gel and aerosol containers larger than three ounces past security checkpoints.
Vick eventually turned in the bottle, and a screener tossed it into a recycling bin. After Vick continued through the checkpoint, however, the suspicious screener took the bottle out of the bin and discovered it had a hidden compartment, according to police. The compartment had a "small amount of dark particulate and a pungent aroma closely associated with marijuana," the police report said.
The screeners called police, who took the substance to a laboratory for testing. That testing was not completed as of Thursday, and no charges have been filed against Vick, who was allowed to board his AirTran flight to Atlanta
Season is over... Smoke up Johnny. Way to jepordize a HUGE career

I don't like to prejudge anyone but some people just don't get it. I suppose nobody ever said you have to be smart to be able to throw a football. Can't imaging anyone of his "stature" jeopardizing his livelihood by trying to sneak $20 worth of dope through airport security. Is he such a drug addict that he couldn't wait to get high on the other end of his travel where he could buy dope from any thug on a street corner????
I'm sure his attorney is already working on how they are going to challenge the bottle belonging to him. After all, the bottle was thrown into a "recycling bin" and then later retrieved. How can the screener be obsolutely sure the bottle he retrieved from the bin is the bottle that was being carried by Vick??? I think a good defense attorney could shoot holes all through this case. Just my 2 cents...
This is a guy who flies on commercial airplanes all the time. Why he would even try something like this is beyond me. It is just stupid.

When teams travel, they don't go through the same screening process as we do on commercial flights. Water bottles are standard carry-ons for them. If you did unannounced drug screens on pro sports players, you'd probably find more than 50% using. Unfortunately, most of them know when the drug screens will occur, so they just stop using for a few days, get screened, pass, and go back to their drugs. The only time these people get caught is something like this, or while driving under the influence.
kcallahan. I am not even talking about team travel. These guys fly through commercial airports on a regular basis. He should have known better (well, he should have known better not to do drugs, but hey...)

well, anyone who went to VT during Vick's stay there and had any runnings in with him (as I did) can tell you that he wasn't exactly the brightest person there. I always thought they he wouldn't ever do anything to jeopardize his career though.

I would guess this was not the first time he traveled with his "special" water bottle. I would bet he's done it before, thus, he was comfortable enought to do it repeatedly. Besides, he's a sports superstar! Who the heck would ever check his water bottle???
Doesn't the nfl do drug testing? Hmmm, I believe they do. In fact, They've ramped up their testing significantly. But do they test during the off season?
