Though I've been active on various Internet reflectors for years I am at a loss, at times, in understanding the use of "bump" in threads on Aximsite. I always thought it meant that a thread should be bumped to another forum but I often see the single word in posts on Aximsite and fail to understand the context.

Can someone give me a brief explanation of the term's meaning here when used as the sole word in a post?

BUMP / TOUCH / MAKE HOT / BRING to TOP

While logged in this site keeps track of all threads in ralation to the last time you signed in. A "bump" will make the last change to a thread as current, and the next time you log in, you will see threads that are "active".

So if a thread dead out 1 month ago, and some one bumps it. It will be current again, no longer dead.

It means to put the post back into the recent threads search.

Bump is an offshoot of "the hustle", a dance originated during the disco era. During this dance, two people would orient themselves closely to each other in a sideways position and "bump" derriers together.
