Frankly some of the Ipaqs are quite tempting to me. However, I doubt I'll ever really give it serious consideration because my family owned a couple of Compaq desktops previously and they were unequivocal HELL. They left me permanently traumatized and i'll never be able to buy anything from them again, no matter how well-reviewed it is. (and the merger with HP doesn't mean much to me either.)

My Dell desktop on the other hand, I could leave on for weeks on end without ever having to reboot, if it weren't for my damned printer being so retarded and requiring a full system restart sometimes just to be able to cancel a job...

I haven't found the axim nearly as stable as my desktop, but i'm satisfied with it overall and for computer products in general, Dell has my vote locked in.

Big Smile LOL

I completely agree about Compaq's desktops, they're.....ass.
:D

However, I won't be going to an X3...maybe an X7, but not if Dell makes it as large as I think they will.

HP makes the iPaqs now, not Compaq.

Anyway, the iPaq is $400, and the Axim is $300. So you get what you pay for, I guess. If it's anything like the 1910, though, I wasn't all THAT impressed with it. I've even used the $700 5455, and I didn't see that it was any better than the Axim, except for having more built-in features. iPaqs are good, but as far as I'm concerned the Axims are too.

Well, it's the only iPaq that I've felt was worth buying. I wasn't impressed with the 1910 at all. It was too slow, too small, and didn't support a standard headphone jack. The 2215 has none of those problems, it's just perfect.

The only thing that might keep me from getting it, is that I might wait until they release a version of it, with wifi built in...

The 5455 has too many features I don't need at a price point equal to a cheap laptop.

The HP 2215 however has just the right amount of features, at a relatively good price, great size, grips on each side of it, etc. etc. It's the middle of the road in features for the HP line but maintains the top of the line performance with all the new PXA255 handhelds. I am seriously considering converting sooner or later to this handheld or it's next breed. The screen on the Axim is great, the screen on the 2215 is better. However the real kicker for me is the video performance and PocketSNES performance which are both PHENOMINAL.

Right now I remain an avid aximite but we'll see what the future holds.

Are you a Dell employee Osiris? If you are, you are putting your job in jepardy by making this thread. What if your superiors see this?

Anyway you're doing your part for mankind, forget the corporate mess you may get yourself into.

The community is having a field day over Toshiba not releasing PPC 2003 for the older e300's and e740's, it's crazy. Check out the Brighthand.com forums and see.

I admit, the new HP 2210 looks great. But it's a bit too early to jump to conclusions that the 2210 is superior. Here's a few points to consider:

First, I paid $265 for my Axim Advanced back in November at the time of the Axim's lauch; the 2210 costs $395: a $130 difference.

Second. While bluetooth is nice, most people don't have a use for it and it is unreliable at best (not to mention it eats battery faster). I connect my Axim to my LG5350 SprintPCS cell phone via a Gomadic cable and serf the net @ 115K. That's good enough "connectiveity" for me. :)

Third, the 2210 is running PPC2003 so of course it is seeing lots of benefits, benchmark wise. So far, the only Axim we know of with PPC2003 is Chris's at this site. Lets wait until more consumers begin upgrading their Axims to PPC2003 in July. Osiris, where did you hear that the 2210 has a larger bus (I assume you are referring to system bus)? Jason Dunn @ PocketPCThoughts reported the 2210 only has a 100MHz System bus like the Axim's. Who knows, the Axim may end up being just as much of a speed demon running PPC2003 as the 2210 (Here's crossing my fingers ;) ).

Fourth, the 2210 is using that new cheap NAND flash ROM which dosen't allow it to run the application from ROM--it has to use some of your System RAM. I for one am glad for all the System RAM I can get. I think the 2210 only gives you around 57MB (correct me if I'm wrong) of user-accessible RAM while my Axim gives me the full 64MB. Plus, I get an additional 16MB of Built-in Storage compared to the 2210. That's 23MB more space on an Axim than on a 2210.

The 2210 is a great machine, but so is the Axim. If you take all things into consideration, neither is better or worse overall. They both are capable units and either choice could be rightly justified. :)

Nope

Nope, I'm not jeapordizing my employment. Dell is very open minded about such things. The only thing that would hurt my employment is if I told a customer directly that the Axim wasn't a good product. And then, I'd be lying to them...

Wrong mindset...

I think instead of saying "Ouch" about the new iPaq...we should all be thankful. Incredible products like the 2215 are precisely what's going to kick Dell into high gear, to produce and even better PDA than the X5.

I really have high hopes for the X7...we'll see.

Well since you work at Dell see what you can do in nudging them into making a new line of PDA's. We don't want the Axim line to stagnate with the same products until 2004 (according to some estimates for the next PDA's to be released by Dell). Dell could kick some serious arse since it's design is tried and true.

I mean if you thin the handheld a bit, add SDIO, keep about the same design (the gamer friendly design it has), improve the screen a bit and really that's about it and you have a killer PDA right there. Oh yeah and of course optimize the hardware for the PXA255 chip.
