If I underclock a 733MHz P3 to 550MHz or 366MHz, about how much can I undervolt it and still get reliable operation? I'm building a router and I need to keep heat down to reduce heatsink and power supply size.

i dunno. if i were you i wouldn't down clock/volt it. that is just asking for trouble. whynot get one of those snazzy micro-itx boards with the via chip sets? they seem to run very cool (there was a video of a guy taking the heat sink of of one and it still running fine) and they run very light on power.
I know that when trying to find a fan the went bad in my p3 box I forgot to plug in the CPU fan and it ran ok until I tried to play a game then it crashed. It runs a 1Ghz. So they do run cool when you do not put a large load on it.

i agree. i use to have an experimental p3 box. it never got very hot at all... but then again it did havea huge heatsink.....
Yes, I'm "recycling" old parts into a router. The motherboard is a small, old one.
I just like to know where to start with undervolting. I have to rewire the voltage regulator to change the voltage and I'd like to have to do it only once or twice.

Yea, I love recycling old parts. You wouldn't believe what I did with all those all computers, routers, linux machines, media centers, all sorts of stuff

What software are you guys using for the router? I am trying to do similar project. See my post: All you linux fans...
