Well, I finally broke down and bought one for my Mom :)

She has been wanting something to use while exercising and walking and such. Plus she really wanted something small.

I decided on the new Shuffle (the little one with the clip) and WOW is it small.

I knew it was small, but this thing is SMALL. Its amazing how they get a battery and 1gb of storage in such a tiny thing. Its amazingly light and small and has awesome sound too.

It looked funny but I connected my sennhesier HD555 studio headphones to it and it still sounded very good. Looked funny as it was tiny compared to the end of the headphones since the headphones have a larger studio style plug

Overall a great little piece IMO. No screen, but for a few tracks and listening for exercise and such its perfect :approve:

Awesome. I bought my fiancée an iPod for Christmas. That seems like the best way to go nowadays.

Yea, I got my mom a PDA for Christmas, so I guess I'm not doing half bad on the best present list either :D
Anyways, congrats on your purchase even though it isn't for you, I'm glad you like it, I think the iPod is the only MP3 player worth owning, but that's just me

I saw one in the flesh the other day too and yeah they're minute. Soooo small. Quite an achievement.

I heard that iTunes will convert your audio down to 128kb/s before putting it on the shuffle. Have you seen that?

Ya I actually saw that it is an option in the Device Settings via itunes. Kinda a neat idea, but 1gb is plenty of space for such a small device with no screen (no way to go directly to a track).

The only thing new to me is the speed, it seems slower to put songs on than my ipod photo, but i heard the same thing about the nanos since they are flash memory based

Its 1gb and Apple says 240 songs (but I never go by that). It should hold quite a few considering there is no screen to look through them, so far it has 2 songs on it :p (have to show her how to put songs on it this weekend).
