Thats pretty kewl. I acctually hate the sidebar in vista. I never would use its features, just a waste of screen realstate. If i ever get real vista, i would disable it.
But, nice screenshots. I may consider doing that when i get sick of xp.

Just realized I forgot to mention the programs I used!
Vista Transformation Pack - http://www.windowsxlive.net/?page_id=15
(This includes the msstyles theme, icon set, sidebar, cursors, screen savers, and a little program that makes the start orb extend over the top of the taskbar like in Vista.) The basic Vista theme (Taskbar, windows, icons, start menu, Segoe UI font, scrollbars, progress animations, cursors, etc., but with a cut-off Start orb and no sidebar) does not take up any additional resources due to the fact that it is integrated right into XP's graphics engine. It does not affect factory styles, so I can still switch to XP style with no errors. Icons remain vista-like, however. The Start-orb fix only takes up about 1,988 Kb of memory, and the sidebar (with functional "gadgets") takes up 12,000 Kb or so.
Edit: This program is free! 100% Free! Totally FREE! No malware, either!
TopDesk - http://www.otakusoftware.com/topdesk/
Probably one of the coolest $15 programs I've ever seen! This allows for stunning, Vista-like "Flip 3D" transitions, as well as a duplicate of OSX's "Exposé." Running on my computer with only 512MB of RAM and 64MB Intel integrated graphics (bad), the transitions were all extremely smooth despite the expected choppy animations. It does interfere a bit with the start orb fix mentioned above, but not in a way that causes any stability issues. It has a 30 day trial, and I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants the coolest programs for their computer.
Ugh I wish I could do that with Win2000 but I plan on buying a Tablet PC with Vista pre-installed 6months from now :p
WindowBlinds 4.6 will work on Win2000. You have to pay for it though, and if you're getting Vista anyway it would be a waste. Still nice to know for those who may want to do this with 2000.
Excellent work aximgenius. My thoughts on Vista are that it isn't much more than a prettier version of XP. Now that we can make XP look as pretty as vista, its gonna be a long time before I consider upgrading. If it's not broken, don't fix it.

Actually, Vista is a huge improvement over XP in stability and reliability. The only reason I'm not upgrading is the cost, and the fact that Vista is still far behind Mac OSX.
How do we know it's a huge improvement? Certainly, not because MS says so. Right now I have no reason at all to upgrade from XP (my 2 XP computers are quite stable) but if Vista is that much better, I might be interested. Are there any unbiased direct comparisons of reliability and stability between Vista and XP?
aximgenius...I am thinking of applying what you did to my laptop. I have all of the necessary files/programs. Have you found any issues with stability with that setup you have or are you pretty happy with everything? Reading some forums dedicated to VTP 6, some people had systems where the package was a lot more trouble than it was worth. Just curious as to your experience. Thanks.

FACT: Vista is far far behind Mac OS X
FACT: Vista os a new GUI for XP
FACT: Vista is nothing except a overpriced version of Windows XP
Nice facts, except:
FACT: Vista is a brand new kernel, the first in years for Microsoft, not just a new GUI on XP like the media and bashers keep saying
FACT: Vista is does not cost much more than XP does even though it has many new features and a brand new kernel that is much more secure.
FACT: Mac OSX fanboys keep bashing MS even though they share a tiny marketshare, seems like the mass market tends to make the decision on what works best in the real world situtations......
Grentz and spunker88: I'm not bashing Microsoft, I'm just stating the facts.
1. Vista is better than XP. As Grentz said, it has a brand new kernel and lots of other improvements. I've talked to a few people who ran the Vista betas, and they all said that it was much more stable and reliable than XP.
2. Vista has its weak spots. Again, I'm not bashing MS, I'm just saying that Vista isn't perfect. Compatibility issues are the main problem, as well as incredibly annoying popup "security" windows that actually do not help security at all. The sidebar really only takes up screen real estate. Flip3D, while nice, doesn't help all that much sometimes. (I have TopDesk for XP, which does the same thing, and in practice, it really isn't that much easier to use than just the taskbar icons. Some may like it, though.)
3. Mac OSX has its (occasional) weak spots. Specifically, I use a Mac every day at school, and when I unplug my thumbdrive, a dialog comes up that requires me to hit "OK." Slightly annoying. Also, a program didn't install quite right, but that's probably the program's fault.
4. Mac OSX is solid as a rock. In our school's TV studio, we use all macs. We run tons of programs constantly, including multiple high definition movies running simultaneously with Photoshop, Final Cut HD, and a complex 3D animation program rendering on full quality. All that in addition to a multiple-monitor setup. Not one crash or hangup. Someone I know has a mac that's crammed with freeware downloads. Any problems? Not one. He's not even running antivirus software! I'm not even sure antivirus software exists for Macs, it's just not necessary. I could go on and on here, but I think that covers the major points.
The fact is, Vista is a huge improvement over XP for stability, but Vista is still no match for OSX. Look up more detailed reviews online, you'll see what I mean.
Vista may be more stable and reliable but I don't have any problems with XP so as long as it is still supported, i'll probably stick with XP. Now once Vista has been out for a while, compatability issues are resolved and a service pack is released, then I may think about upgrading. Of course, by then, it'll be time for me to build a new rig. This one is feeling its age.
