Dell Precision 690 randomly shuts down....

Hi.

Just exchanged my work desktop to a brand new workstation: Dell Precision 690 (XP), 24" Widescreen....Everything running smooth until a couple a days ago, when it suddenly, just turned itself off! And this has happened a couple of more times since that. When booting up this morning, "CHKDSK" started. Deskside support have been scratching their heads for a week now, me too. Very annoying! Anyone out there who could give me a hint about this problem/ or a solution to it?

TIA, zumpen

I'd say it's a power supply problem. I learned the hard way that there is no alternative to a decent power supply. What kind of video card do you have, number of hard drives, optical drives....?

Power supply is easy enough to replace.

Explain to Dell Support, the problem. They'll send you a replacement PSU and a
pickup slip for the faulty unit. No charge.

Thanks guys!

I upgraded the BIOS today, from A01 to A03, maybe that will do the trick. If don't, that PSU is my next option. Thanks....

(Spec:
4 Xeon 1,6 GHz
4 GB RAM
nVidia Quadro FX 3500
160 GB Harddrive)

I use it for AutoCad and Quest (production simulation), and some ax syncing... :-)
