When will kids learn that nothing good comes from Myspace.

Girls accused of mistreating friend in sleepover
an Associated Press report 02/23/07
INVERNESS - Two Inverness girls are accused of locking a friend in a bedroom and putting itching powder on her face during a sleepover.
Now the girls -- ages 13 and 15 -- face false imprisonment charges, as well as other misdemeanor charges that have not been released because the two are juveniles.
Citrus County police say the girls invited their friend to sleep over Sunday, but they were seeking revenge because they suspected her of cheating on her boyfriend -- something the girls didn't agree with.
Police reports say they locked their friend in a bedroom, made her partially undress in a bathroom and put some itching powder on her face. They also videotaped it all and posted it on the social networking site MySpace.
The victim did not require medical attention. Her mother called police after the sleepover.
The two girls were released to the custody of their parents and are under house arrest.
Second thing... It is a good thing Myspace wasn't around when I was a teen, the first guy to pass out at a party got treated a LOT worse than this

its one thing to film yourself doing something stupid, illegal, and or dangerous for your own personal pleasure later on in life on your computer at home, but its another thing to put it on the internet. lol. Freaking retards.
You know what, though, guys. It's not the fault of MySpace - it's like any other tool - it's the idiots that use it. My daughters and their friends use it all the time, but they've got the self-restraint not to do stupid stuff on it. Their mother and I monitor their pages to make sure they keep it appropriate.
It's the same thing with guns. We got nuts out there that blow away 30 people with them - and we got nuts that think "gun control" is the answer. We also got nuts that do stupid stuff on MySpace and nuts that think eradicating MySpace is the answer.
Why does everything at the moment keep gravitating towards the gun control debate, there's an appropriate thread for that. Yeah it is really stupid to collect evidence of yourself doing the wrong thing but to broadcast it, well :rolling:
I agree. It's awful in the sense that the parents (who didn't deserve any of this) have to deal with this on their own. But you can't help but laugh (being the sadist I am)
Lakeland, Florida - The victim's father is furious with internet companies that post the videos.
Patrick says “I'm very upset with these internet companies as far as I'm concerned My Space is the anti-Christ for children."
Trash talking on a My Space page is what led to this beat down according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office. But the victim's mother says it wasn't her daughter who bad-mouthed the girls on the social networking page. It was someone else.
Talisa says "Well we knew that someone had hacked into her My Space because she made us aware of it."
The videotaped fight released on Monday afternoon by the Polk County Sheriff's office was just one of five fights filmed over a period of 30 minutes. At one point the victim's head is slammed into a bedroom wall and she's knocked unconscious. The girls accused of taping it seem to enjoy it. You can hear them on tape cheering each other on and begging the victim to “fight back!”
The fight happened on March 30th at 6124 West Calendar Court in Lakeland. The victim was spending time at a friend's house during spring break last week but that friend is now charged with attacking her.
Sheriff Grady Judd spoke about a portion on the tape where one girl said, “There's only 17 seconds left. Make it good. That is animalistic behavior. It's pack mentality. They lured her there to beat her."
Lakeland, Florida - The Polk County Sheriff's office released the video of a teenage girl who, as Sheriff Grady Judd puts it, was "lured so her friends could beat her."
The video shows what Judd says is the second of five beatings the 16-year-old received from people she knew. The attackers say they were upset with so-called "trash talk" the victim posted on her MySpace page, and they say they wanted to post their own video of the beating on MySpace and YouTube.
The sheriff says the victim was first beaten unconscious in a bedroom. When she awoke, she was on a couch in the living room, where the screaming and beatings continued.
"It is disgusting that the attackers find it funny and want to post something on the Internet showing someone nearly beaten to death," says the victim's mother.
Sheriff Judd is calling it one of the most disturbing videos he has seen in a long time and he hopes all those arrested will be tried as adults. They face charges ranging from felony battery, false imprisonment to kidnapping. The sheriff says the attackers "were relentless."
Even though those involved could face prison time, Judd says the teens showed no remorse after their arrests.
"When they were in a holding cell, they were all laughing," Judd says. "One of the teens arrested, who is a cheerleader, asked, 'Does this mean I'm going to miss cheerleading practice tomorrow?' The others were cutting up and said, 'It looks like we won't be going to the beach this weekend.'"
While the attackers can laugh off the incident, the victim's mother certainly can't.
"You never think it will happen to your family," she says. "To have this happen and see it... is hard to bear."
The video is all the buzz at Mulberry High School where many of the suspects attend classes. Tuesday students say teachers had to tell classes to stop talking about the video.
But one student says not only are many people shocked about the video they're also shocked about the main person throwing punches in it saying Brittni Hardcastle is one of the nicest people you'd ever want to meet.
Kathy Morrisroe is a student at Mulberry high school student and says "I couldn't believe it. I was watching it and I saw that it was Brittni and I went to church with the girl. She doesn't strike me at all like that." In fact Kathy says Brittni befriended her and was very nice to her.
Miles Fass is also a Mulberry high school student who says the suspects in the video are not known as being bullies. “They're known to be pretty cool actually to tell you the truth I wouldn't believe it if I didn't see it on the internet."
We called the parents of the other students accused in the beating. The mother of Brittany Mayes says her daughter is "A good girl."

Sickening. I am sick and tired of women acting unfemanine. It seems like a trend nowadays.
that is tough. we say that we want to empower them beyond the traditional womans roles. but when they act similar to men (especially stupid men) we ask why are then not acting femine.
in this case they are just too stupid or too secure in their belief of not being held accountable for their actions.
