One image to rule them all (except the damn tablets...)

Damn thing comes with a non-corporate XP, when I wipe it to install our corporate tablet software, it BSODs in DOS mode.
There are probably a bunch of OEM mass storage drivers and such that I have to manually include

What method are you using to deploy the image?
RIS??
Ghost????
Ghost.. The tablet issue turned out to be the Dosmode mass storage drivers.
I took the standard install dvd that I built with the unattended XP and apps install, hit it with nlite and had it integrate the mass storage drivers into the XP install.
It is now booting the XP and installing.
Now just to integrate it into sysprep...

Yes, our company re-images the Dell laptops & desktops with an image customized for each of the business units. (It's a big company) What seems strange and has caused problems is that the image seems to change randomly. It's supposed to be standard, with changes carefully rolled out.
In other words, if we worked in the same business & office... I could get a new machine today, you could get a machine next week. The installed software & configuration are different. A third person could get a new machine a month from now and it seems to be the exact same image as what I have from an earlier machine.
It also was not until the last 9 months or so that you would actually get XP if you got a new machine. 2000 was the standard. If you were fortunate enough to get XP before then, don't expect help from the help desk...
