just wondering if someone had some good ideas for targets. i would liek somethign that is reactive (ie, if i shoot it it will shatter or something). i will be usign them with 2 air rifles, but capable of putting a .177 cal wadcutter through 4 layers of medium thickness tin at 20ft. what i am using right now are index card folded in half with a color dot sticker on one side. the index cards work ok, but they are gettign a bit boring.
Don't worry about trying to make things explode.
1) it becomes boring as the last explosion isn't as good as the one before
2) it is a pellet gun... you want an explosion get a 12 guage and gallon jugs of water
However, if you get paper targets concentrate on taking single shots into the target at the same point. Once you can put 4 out of 5 shots inside a 3" circle, move the target back 10'-20' and repeat
Explosions are nice but being able to hit what you are aiming at is better

the reason i said exploding targets was becouse wit hthe note cards, from 60ft i cant see where i hit. if i had somethign that shattered i would be able to tell instantly if i hit.
Suspend a series a soup can sized lids on a string. They tend to move in the breeze, which makes it more interesting, there is audible confirmation, and they are reusable for quite awhile.

1. I have heard of people using crackers of various sizes. You can probably find various forms of candy that you can use.
2. Snoop around in the hardware store and find some large nuts or bolts or something similar. You paint them and set them on a flat surface. If you hit them you knock them off of the surface.
3. You could probably mold your own disks out of some form of clay or mud, maybe even embed strings in them so you could hang them up.
4. You can buy metal targets made for this. They have a metal shape that hangs down and swings when you hit it so you see it swing and hear it clang. Some have one target that sticks up above the pivot point and one that hangs down.
Make the best sight picture and shoot it 4-5 times. Keep your aim steady.
If you can hit about the same place every time (or reasonably so) more the target farther away and repeat.
It is about holding a steady aim and hitting it accurately at distance.
Grouping the shots means that you are being accurate with the aim. The more shots within a given space means that you have a good sight picture and can hold the weapon steady repeatedly... You can get lucky once and break a bottle.. or pull a shot to the side once.
Multiple shots in a single 'hole' means you can hit what you are aiming at.
Very good practice for when you move up in weapon caliber and paper still dies very easy
