hi i got a 28" hd lcd

after about half an hour the screen goes red in some places and the TV needs to be turned off to get it back to normal

anyone have any ideas what might cause this problem?

Sorry I don't know anything about HDTVs but my experience with electronics would point to something overheating. If you take it apart to see if something is very hot remember there are very high voltages inside a TV, even with the power cord unplugged. Capacitors will retain a charge for a long time, unless you're unfortunate enough to help them discharge.

Return/RMA/replace it.

Something is wrong with it and if you just bought it or still have warranty there is no reason to open it and void your warranty.
