Howdy all,

I was just wondering what sort of scientific/graphing calculators you would recommend. I am looking for somehing that I can use on standerdized tests as well as my science and math classes. I have been looking at the various TI-8x models and I was just wondering what you thoguht.

Thanks,

Go with Texas Instruments, used 'em for years.

Never had an "event", failure or shutdown.

I got hooked on RPN while in engineering school and I've used them ever since, although in recent years it has been a challenge to find some of the more desireable HP models on the used market. I have a low priced TI scientific setting on my desk for quickie calculations. (If I leave my HP setting on my desk it will walk off.)

The TI models run from $10 to $100, and some of the more expensive ones are not allowed in some college classes because you can store equations and so forth in them, so probably you should ask your instructurs for what is allowed or not allowed.

There is a very good HP48 emulator for pocket PCs thay you can D/L for free. They work great and allow you to move around with one less device.

Go to www.hpcalc.org and look at EMU48.

i believe Lauren has a TI-84 Plus Silver Edition and freaks out about all it can do, she finds new things about it all the time...it has saved her butt many a time, not just in math but also science ...
yes, she's in

For school, go for mid range TI.
Simply because everyone is using it, and if you have a question, you can always ask another student or instructor, and they would know what to do.

Compare with all the graph calculators out there, TI is so-so.
If you are going to be an engineer, you might get another one down the road.

But as for school, TI is fine --you don't want to be left behind because no one knows (including you) how your calculator works

I love my ti-85. I don't think you can get them anymore though. I dislike 83s for some odd reason, but I think you can get 89s for fairly cheap. Everybody uses an 83 though, so they're pretty easy to use.

I have a HP-15C and a HP-12C as I also like RPN. I picked up a set of RPN calculators for my PDA, too, that includes the HP-16C in addition to those other two.

It is best to stick with TI as they are the standard really and most learning type things are built around them (plus teachers know them).

I would get a TI since it really helped out having a brand that the teacher knows about.

Go with the TI-84 Plus Silver. Anything more advanced than that (like the TI-89) might not be allowed on some tests.
