Microsoft Offering FREE Visual Studio 2005 Standard

In case anyone is interested, Microsoft is offering a complimentary Visual Studio 2005 Standard to any "computer professional". This normally goes for $250 ($100 if you're a student), and this is the best way to do Windows Mobile development. What's the catch? You have to sit through 2 of their Visual Basic labcasts from the comfort of your computer, and then take a survey. I haven't done this, as I already paid for this. Still, for you cheapskate developers, just thought I'd forward this along...

Who says you have to sit through it. Open it up, let it start. and just leave the room. That is bad...

Yeah, I just signed up for 4 of the labs myself. Those labs aren't usually terribly in-depth but they give you a good snapshot view of what the tools can do. Besides, a copy of VS2005 standard is a good incentive - I was near to buying a copy anyway so I'll just do the labs instead.

Whoa, awsome!

They did this for Office 2007 and Vista 2007, but when I had the chance to sign up, I didn't, didn't think it was worth it.

But now, I wish I did, I don't care if its bad, but its free! Hey, nothing better than that!

Office 2007 and Vista they can keep. I've got it on a laptop down at the office and I'm not all that impressed with either one of them. I mean ... Vista is "OK" - nothing major wrong with it - but it ain't an upgrade for XP IMHO. Office2007? No way ... it's just too heavy looking to me. I'll keep my Office2003 under lock-and-key thanks.

I agree with office 2007. Its too much of a change, and for microsoft. Of course, a change was well due, but at least give us an option to switch to classic (like xp).

Look at the screenshots below. The top one is word 95, bottom, word 2003. Not much changes, right.

Now, word 2007!
