the other, more serious problem, is that most airgunners dont realize how harmless their weapons are when compared to even the smallest caliber rifles. even my small ruger 10/22 would eat your airgun for breakfast. a .22 rifle round is deadly at almost mile! i would LOVE to see your airgun pop somthing even half that distance, and one it is there to do any damage. The problem is, it cant. neither a pellet nor a bb have the weight necessary and the guns do not have the power. Simple. Fact. Don't forget it. :approve:

Air rifles in the UK are very much taboo. There were a spate of kids firing these so called 'toys' and ended up killing little infants.

Its amazing what a small high velocity missile can do when it hits a less armoured part of the body e.g eyes etc.

Personally I think all firearms have their place.....in the barracks.

the was a thread on the airgunforum.net and one guy said that moms would come into his store and ask for an airgun for thier son. he would tell them NO! and he said that the mom would always say "but their only toys". yeah. toys that can put a hole in a thick sheet of metal.

and secoundly if you took away firearms, then their would be a HUGE problem with crime. becouse then criminals would find ways to get guns but law abiding citizens wouldnt be able to get them to defend them selves.

I struggle to see the logic in that Chris. 'We need guns to defend ourselves' I know is a pretty hot topic in America but all I ever hear of is gang shootings, kid goes crazy with daddy's sniper rifle, road rage leads to shoot out. I very very rarely hear of man defends home from criminal etc.

Our citizens do not posess firearms yet it is very very rare we will see gun crime in the UK.

In the UK there is no chance we will ever adopt the same mentality as the USA regards firearms. I mean there are some real nutters out there and all you are doing is providing them with the tools to exact terrible carnage.

I still remember Dunblane like it was yesterday and god forgive us all if we let it ever happen again.

that is a horrible idea. so answer me this. what happens when one derranged man gets a hold of a gun and goes to a school goign from kid to kid killing them. how does he get stopped? well no ne has a gun and if they attemp to stab him, then they get shot. the only way for soemone to stop him would be to shoot him, but no one has a gun so all of those kids die. and dont say that this has never happened, becosue it has.

soem peopel are just too stupid that no matter how many guns there are, criminals will be able to get oen if they ant to.

He would have been taken out by highly trained armed rapid reaction law enforcement units.

Put it this way Chris the gun event I referenced was a one off, many years ago. In the US these types of events are becoming common place I.e gun rampages. The majority of what we hear is 'he was a quiet kid', 'supposedly he was getting bullied at school......that was until he had a wee mental breakdown went into his dads office, got a semi-automatic and thought he would even the score.

My point is these firearms are extremely accessible, dangerous and readily accepted by your society. If they are part of the furniture in the house then then I think you are asking for trouble.

I recollect a story of a Scots lad that was over in the US visiting relatives. He was out having beers with friends and was a wee bit worse for it. He staggered to what he thought was his relatives home. Fumbled with his keys at the door to be met with a hail of bullets coming through the door. Dead...instantly. He had missed the correct house by a couple of doors. The guy on the other side of the door panicked and let loose. He didn't think to challenge the person or call the police first.

The Citizen is not responsible or trained enough to be trusted with firearms.

We are cultures apart Chris and I appear to have taken you on a tangent. I just hope you never get into a situation where you think you need to pull a gun to defend yourself.

2000fps

I'm looking for an air rifle that will shoot at 2000fps or higher.
Is there anything like that on the market?

yeah.... yeah... i think there is. i remember seeing soemthign that shot close to that in the airgun mag. the thing though is, that was with the special gamo "gold" rounds. at 2k fps, a lead pellet round just would not be very stable.

the gamo hunter exterme shoots at 1650 with PBA ("gold") rounds. i think it shoots something liek 1500 with lead.

just out of curiosity, why do you want 2k?

Thanks for replying Chris.
As to why I want 2k, I was just talking with this other guy, and I say, "there is an air rifle that will do 2k." and he is like, "no way. I've heard of 1k or maybe 1.5k but never 2k." this guy thought that 1.5 would be a big if.
I looked at that Gamo gun you mentioned, and I'll have to show that to him.
How much would that 2k cost?

And another question for you guys.
If I wanted to buy a good air rifle, what would you suggest?
I'd use it mainly just for killing paper (target pratice) but I'd want it to have a good range with a good kick. I'd also want it to be break barrel powered.
Any suggestions???

i really dunno. for a 2k airgun (if it exists) then i would say at least $1200.

as for a good airgun GAMO IS GREAT! i sue lots of gamo stuff and they have been a great airgun company. i got a change to fire a gamo varment hunter, and it was amazing. every shot i did, was on bulls-eye.

if you have the money, go with the viper.

how old are you, and how strong? as you are prolly aware, some break barrel rifles are VERY hard to break. i knwo someone who is pretty buff, and he has to brace himself to break the viper. it is also loud, like the crack of a .22.

where do you live? please tell me you are in the usa. UK airgun laws are very limiting.

A real airgun? Try Beeman Precision Airguns and do peek at the airguns from Europe.

I had a Feinwerkbau sporting rifle, great, speed and accurate too! :approve:
