Kristopher Michael Russ has been charged with grand theft.
The man responsible for stealing money being collected for a cancer-stricken girl has been arrested, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said Kristopher Michael Russ is the man captured on surveillance tape taking a charity jar loaded with cash off the counter at a Brandon Dairy Queen last week.
The money was being collected for a local four-year-old girl fighting cancer.
The jar was found after the robbery but it was empty.
Deputies returned it to the restaurant, and added their own donation.
Russ, 24, is facing two theft charges, one of which has been classified as grand theft.
Also, he has a previous charge of driving with a suspended or revoked license. He is being held without bond.

I'd imagine the cops who arrested this man took a few liberties... I know if I were one of the cops, that guy would have "resisted arrest" and possibly "ran"...

That's rather irresponsible of you to say. The man is accused, not convicted. And even if he is convicted, it's not the arresting officer's duty to perform the punishment. What you are saying is that police officers should happily abuse suspects that they don't like on a personal level. You support police brutality. You are no better than the man who stole from the charity.
Accused is nice, but video is better. Since the jar was on the counter beside a register, one might be safe to assume that is within clear view of the cameras that are typically focused there.
However, resisting arrest and helping suspects into the cruiser is a fairly common practice. Tends to establish authority with the obnoxious and arrogant.

I wouldn't execute the guy... I just can't say that I wouldn't give him a jab to the ribs once or twice.
I'm trying to think of a way to say this nicely and not offend anybody... But they usually have a good reason for arresting people. Even if they didn't do that particular crime, to get arrested someone would have to be pretty suspect to begin with and it probably wouldn't hurt them to get a tastes of jail just to help straighten them out.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not advocating imprisoning innocent people, but if someone is the kind of person to get arrested, chances are they could use a little reminder.

Not trying to start a flame war here so please show restraint.
I hate to think any of you would really invoke your own "justice" if you were in the position to do so (as a police officer). The officer's job is to investigate the crime and use only the force necessary to affect an arrest. As citizens you would likely demand an officer's job and certainly monetary compensation if you were treated as you profess you would treat the thief, regardless of guilt. You would be correct in doing so given the circumstances.
Professing to accept this behavior if in the position to do so implies you condone such activity by officers, generally, and I don't think you mean that. We recently terminated an otherwise excellent officer for stepping over that line.
I am not a "goodie" type or ACLU fan, rather a 24+ year police officer that has tried to treat everyone with the respect another human deserves. I have used necessary force many times, and more importantly, I have use necessary restraint even more often. I WOULD like to see the upper end of the so-called justice system do their part as that is where the punitive part of the equation is supposed to reside.
It bothers me to hear this message so often when I know most really want us to do our job as it was meant to be done. Kinda like telling your kids if they don't eat their dinner you'll tell the cop sitting on the other side of the cafe. What a way to teach 'em to come to us when they need help.

Anybody can get arrested: you don't have to do anything illegal to be arrested. What if the suspect _looks_ like the the theif. And then later, they review the tape and discover that he's missing a tattoo or a scar or some other identifing mark.
Maybe YOU need to be arrested and abused. After all, it probably wouldn't hurt you to get a taste of jail just to help straighten you out. Chances are you could use a little reminder.
A foster mother was found guilty today of subjecting three young children to a "horrifying catalogue of cruel and sadistic treatment".
Eunice Spry, 62, routinely beat, abused and starved the youngsters in her care over a 19 year period.
...
religious fervor or a general sadistic nutbag... or both

Why are you coming down on Pebu??
If this guy is ever caught he will get a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again (which he probably will the same afternoon).
I think that the political correctness and civil rights of today have really set us back as a society.
When I was young I was pretty good, if I wasn't the local copper would plant his size 9 in my backside and take me home to my parents. It was a good incentive, it worked. If he did that today all hell would break loose and he would probably lose his job.
Your attitude is idealistic and admirable but unfortunately not pratical and contributes to a lot of the problems in society today.
