tiggerr129, fiddling with the switch on laptop is impossible. It is not like the other HP laptops where the little tiny switch is sticking out, and actually you can turn off the monitor by pressing on it... Very easy to fix that one, I would just break or saw that thing where it ends, and make it flat, viola! solved..
However Toshiba placed that inside the hatch, so actually the little hatch on the monitor meets keyboard underneath mouse, and inside the latch, so it is almost impossible to fiddle with that.

rsaturn9, the reason your hibernation might not be working, could be due to the fact that your laptop/pc doesn't support it, and your Windows does not know that. If the hardware doesn't support it, and if software thinks it does, it will cause problems with hibernation, like you mentioned.

Thanks Grentz,

Code:
powercfg /devicequery wake_from_s1_supported
returned

Code:
NONE
However

Code:
powercfg /devicequery wake_from_any
Returned the following:

Code:
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
ACPI Lid
Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM PCI Express Root Port - 2660
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM PCI Express Root Port - 2662
TOSHIBA Software Modem
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
However, as you know wake_from_any returns everything that includes sleep/stand by/hibernation/etc.

As you mentioned ACPI Lid is listed. I searched on the web for Disable ASPI Lid, no luck! I guess we will have to work our way around using above config, if we can and find a way to make it useless.

I tried to filter that using s3 since it is supposed to be "deepest"

Code:
powercfg /DEVICEQUERY wake_from_S3_supported
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
ACPI Lid
Texas Instruments OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller
Texas Instruments PCIxx21 Integrated FlashMedia Controller
SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller
Marvell Yukon 88E8036 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM PCI Express Root Port - 2660
Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM PCI Express Root Port - 2662
TOSHIBA Software Modem
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
There should be a way within these parameters to disable the Lid, but I don't want to try that without making sure.
Since there are only two devices listed under

Code:
powercfg /DEVICEQUERY wake_armed
are

Code:
Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard
TOSHIBA Software Modem
Because it states:

Code:
/DEVICEDISABLEWAKE <devicename> disable the device from waking the system
from a sleep state. <devicename> is a device retrieved
                using the '/DEVICEQUERY wake_armed' parameter.
Looks like /DEVICEDISABLEWAKE works only for "SLEEP" strictly..

Thanks again!

Innovative! I wonder how many times the laptop is turned off/on daily?
Don't use sleep or hibernate, ever.

When travelling, why not remove the battery?

Another blessed insight from Long Island! :approve:

"Sir, hold on. My laptop is crappy, so you'll have to bear with me while I fiddle around with this battery, trying to get it in place"... Finally as it returns from Hibarnate "Thud!", there goes my battery, due to excessive wear resulted by repetitive fiddling battery doesn't hold and falls on the ground unless I put my laptop on a flat surface, like my client's back"

:)

Anyway, I would rather find a way to simply disable the darn Lid Switch. `

It seems like it wouldn't hurt to try using that /DEVICEDISABLEWAKE command with the ACPI lid though. It could be just what you are looking to do.

If it does not work, you simply go back in and use the /DEVICEENABLEWAKE command to renabled it and no harm done :)

I had used the s1 supported as an example, but it should work for any of the states. wake_armed is just devices that will wake from ANY sleep state, the others are particular to the state (at least thats what I understand).

S1, S2, S3, S4 all are very different and since you are doing hibernation, you are looking for S4. Like I said though, the disable thing is at least worth a try as you can always just renable it.

what a hoot. My rubber band would be better than that. at least then you'd have the option of purposely hitting the client with the rubber band
of course you could get a mac. she says while ducking and typing on her ibook in the dark :hide: I saw a one on ebay for under 300.00. Of course it was pink. That might be hard to explain.
Look at it this way, if you lose all your clients you'll have more time to play here .:approve:

Just a thought, I have a Toshiba L25 and my kid spilled milk on the keyboard and dimmer switch. About 6-8 keys don't work, and you have to mess with the switch in order to get the backlight to stay on. I'm thinking of taking the laptop apart to clean the keys, at the same time, completely removing the dimmer switch to disable it. Any thoughts to this solving my problem? Thanks

I don't see this as spam. Just because the guy has a website. He's not shoving it in your face ABF. You would have had to click a couple of times to get to it.

The site was built because it was supposed to be funny. Black Friday is a goofy/crazy day anyway. So, goofy/crazy web site with funny shirts. Your profile asks "if you have a web site, enter it here" so I did.

Anyway, I posted a message to get help with my milk soaked laptop that has a sensative dim switch (if that is what its called).

Will it make you feel better if I changed my avitar to a jumping squirrel or something? You can't please everyone.

Thanks for the replies, for some reason I did not get notified again after a few replies..

I am busy trying to find out why my manager's Toshiba now started acting up.. It randomly shuts down! Phew.

Anyway, I will try disable/enable trick later on with my laptop, if it goes dead, I am going after Grentz. :) j/k

Oh yeah, Pink iBook is the solution I am looking for!!
