good linux distro with lost of build tools?

im currently workign on a custom firmware project (hp mediavault) and i need a way to compiel custom firmwares. i have been attempign to use cygwin, but there simply arent enough build tools. basically im lookign for a good (light too) linux distro that has the following...

*lots of build tools (some examples are mkcramfs, getext, gwak, gcc ect)
*good wireless networking support
*must be free

any ideas?

Gentoo or slackware, perhaps. My favourite linux distro is debian, though. Gentoo for bleeding edge development tools, but if you don't need them just choose your favourite distro. It's linux (as in freedom), after all.
