Chugging WHILE you type? That's impressive. I always have to set my beer down to type. And I refuse to drink beer through a straw (though I have done it before...).
As for the flood, get all of your stuff up high and go rent yourself a good pump.

so men....4 inches of flooding rain is coming, you have a basement...what do you do first?
(serious question)
let the flood come.
throw away the stuff that gets damaged
throw away/donate most of the rest
People tend to collect lots of crap they do not really need...
when the room is cleared out, re-seal the room with Dryloc or a good paint on water barrier. Also check the walls and joints for damage that patching and caulking can fix.
If the water enters around exterior doors or windows, repair the weather seals and dig french drains around the openings
If a small amount of moisture still enters, store items on milk crates bound together into platforms
If larger amounts enter, the outside walls need to be exposed and an exterior water barrier needs to be installed. as well as a possible regrading of the yard to help surface water to drain away from the house
