Something is seriously wrong. I have know three systems (including mine) in which no fans have been enough. Side of the system has to be opened up and a desktop fan blow directly into the side. Seems to be a problem with some motherboards or the Athlon microprocessor... but never have been able to narrow it down.

Well, I donno :crooked: They are measured in fahrenheit...
I have a geforce2 nvidia video card and the d850md intel motherboard with 2 sticks of 64mb rdram, Western Digital 60gb HD, internal 6 in one card reader and that's about it ( besides the cdrom) I can't realy tell what's heating it up so bad. The processor heatsink isn't very warm, but the video card is real hot ( but seems too small to heat up my whole case. The case is warm to the touch. Thanks!
My processor can get up to 135 - 145 F while playing games (half life and quake 3)

you've got some airflow problems or something. the case should not be warm. i have an athlon XP and if any CPU should give off alot of heat, that would be it and i have no problems. make sure you've got enough open space in your case to get some air flowing from the front to the back.

seems kind of strange that your video card would be that hot. especially a GF2.

I had a heat problem with all the nvidia cards I have used, I am using a geforce 2 mx400 64mb and I just put a new fan on it (but still real hot!), I used to have a geforce mx200 (I think) 32mb and was alway so hot you couldn't touch it (I used it for a year with no problems). I am going to find a fan for the side of my case where most of the heat is comming out of. Thanks

Heh....I have serious heat problems too, but haven't had time to fix it recently. At about 165F, the AMD gets too hot and system reboots. :p

Wow guys... if you're running 135 - 160 degrees F... you're running way too hot. That could smoke a processor. Anything over 120 degrees is enough to cause random data problems, freezeups and limited part life. I'd sure do something right away to get the heat down. I've installed a few computer systems, and in my experience comfortable and safe running temperature is about 112 degrees. It has consistently proven true that systems I've seen hit 124 degrees F start going bonkers.

Well, AMD processors are going to run pretty hot anyhow. I've never seen an AMD AthlonXP (without massive amounts of cooling hardware) run at 112F. Stock, most AthlonXP 2100+ and above hit around 125+F with stock cooling.....and overclocked, they hit between 150F - 160F.

Wow. That surprises me. ('course, the max I've ever installed was an Athlon 1800+). I've got a super-turbo fan on mine and so do a couple other installations I know of. All of them start having problems above 120 or so. Opening the sides and a desk fan eliminated the problems.

Other problem I've discovered was room temperature. Here's the thing: you've got a processor running at 130 degrees F... but the room is a nice chilly 69 degrees. The internal heat is going to dissipate faster and the system run cooler in the long run. But you run 110 degrees in a room 85 F.... and you're gonna crash, 'cause the heat can't dissipate into the room quickly enough.
