I was around during the starwars meltdown and have to admit that I saw the first one at the movies, and thought, Hmmmm
The rest I have scanned when they have been on TV, and also thought Hmmm.
Sorry, can't say I was ever a fan, always looked like Cardboard sets to me.
I remember seeing it for the first time at the theaters too. We had a black and white Motorola tv at home, so being a youngster at the time and seeing it one the big screen in color was a memorable experience for me.:jd: I remember getting my first Star Wars Kenner figure not too long after, a $0.99 Stormtrooper at Woolworths with my allowance money.:approve: Got the Sears cardboard Cantina set with the now rare tall blue Snaggletooth. Gave it to a friend of mine who lost it in his sandbox. Talk about buried treasure...
<putting in false teeth and rising out of his chair with a cane> And in my day we didn't have fancy pre-fabbed Star Wars Legos. No sir, we had those Danish sets where everything was practically square. Our spaceships were square. Even the wheels were square. Ok those weren't...

I still think, for movies that were made 30 years ago, the effects were terrific. I just watched all 6 last week with my 11 year old daughter. Watching from 1 - 6 is really strange, but it was fun. Its a classic, and in 30 years people will still be talking about it.
Where would we be without it.................................
I can actually remember going to see it, at the age of 3. My uncle took me to see it at the movies, we liked it so much we hid in the theater and watched it again
I saw it with my dad and brother at age 6. It was the first movie I got on VCR. I think I had every line of the movie memorized by the time I was eleven

I saw it at the theater in 1977 when it came out (I was 19 at the time). I had heard the radio ads for it - and they actually sounded stupid. I was spending the summer at my grandmother's place in St. Pete at the time. One of her friends had a son who was also staying for the summer and she goaded me into going to the movies with him just for "something to do". So ... he and I went.
The opening scene for the movie absolutely got my attention. (I had not yet seen blue-field technology as yet which Star Wars pioneered by the way). I went back and saw the thing 7 or 8 times in the next year! I think I was more impressed by the technology than anything else being an engineering student at GA Tech.
It's fun to watch that original version of the film once-in-awhile. The technology looks really cheesy compared to today's stuff!
LOL
I remember seeing it in '77 at a drive-in movie theater when I was 5
I have been a StarWars Fan (Freak) ever since.
The special effects where ground breaking, even compared to todays stuff it's still holding it's own.... Look at some of the stuff they're trying to pass off on the Sci-Fi channel.....
Like CB, I was in college for the first release. Though we were poor students we saw it many times that first weekend. For that time the visual effects were amazing!
P.S. First post from my newly acquired and flashed x51v!
