Hey guys,
I did 8 1/2, Served five years on the Kitty Hawk as MM2, w/ three Westpac tours and a dry-dock overhaul in lovely Bremerton Wash.
Finished my time on the USS Cappodanno, FF 1093 out of Newport R.I., and made two rather nice Med cruises.

I do Navy Facility Planning (BFR, 1391, MILCON Documentation, Master Planning, BRAC, etc) for a small firm in Tempe, AZ. Not .mil for me but Its good to see navy guys around. I do most of my work for NAVFAC (Southwest Division, Southern Division, EFA West, EFA Northwest) and mostly Aviation related (JSF, F/A-18 E/F, UAV as well as EA-6B, P-3, S-3, SH-60 and other aircraft.
"michaelmotorcycle" scoters and military, who can beet that. I spent 4 years active with the USCG in Hatteras, NC and I am now on my second year as reserves. I am glad to see that I am not the only one using this site that is in AZ also.
Nice to bump into shipmates here. I'm a retired Master Chief (AVCM) and now working from home as a field service engineer. My Navy career was spent in aviation and thouroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Permanent stations were Miramar, Pensacola, and Virginia Beach. Been here and there. Got the tee shirts and hats. Good times and good friends.
Ciao,
Ron

You might be surprised. There is discipline, you need that in any organization, but that discipline doesn't rule out independent thinking. One of the jobs on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier is the final checker. This person is the last to check the airplane, as it sits on the catapult, that everything looks ok from the outside. No leaks, no panels loose, weapons ok, engines look and sound right. It's a really responsible position. And it's usually filled by someone in their early 20's at the oldest. That position takes independent thinking to be able to accept the responsibility and pressure of making snap decisions of life and death importance under intense pressure and difficult working conditions. Now multiply that position by 6000 and you have a carrier crew. Disciplined, yes, but independent --absolutely!
My family's from there, and several of my relatives were in ARVN. Thanks for everything, soldier -- you are neither forgotten nor unappreciated, at least not on this side of the equation.
