A bunch of whinny kids.
I have the Dell Axim with the broke 2003 OS, and it's really not as bad as you guys are making it out. The Axim IS NOT completely inoperative like you guys are trying to make it sound. Sure, I am annoyed that the calendar takes a few minutes for it to populate, but they have reconized this fact and are working on a patch. If you can't wait til an august release then return the product and go buy something else.
This forum is getting annoying with the screaming 14 year olds. Get a life people and quit your whinning!

madmunki- Do you work for Dell? LOL
I am not 14 yrs old, I haven't been complaining about PPC03 (cause I haven't recieved my upgrade yet :rolling: ) but imagine having a brand new porsche in the driveway and it can only get up to 3rd gear. Porsche dealer says after a few weeks of you trying to figure out what is going- "Oh yeah, we will fix that in 6 weeks".
All I am saying is if a product is suppose to do something- then it should do it.

No, I don't work for Dell. :)
Using your analogy; Porsche is also saying it was a mistake, and is offering your money back if you don’t want to wait the 6 weeks. But instead you decide to keep the Porsche, and just bitch at them constantly...

Whining? I hardly think so.
I decided to order a Dell Axim X5 400Mhz on June 29. I had no idea Microsoft Mobile 2003 was coming out, but figured if Dell was going to sell it to me with MM2003, then it would probably be a good thing.
Wrong. My Axim is going back. It's not "just a couple of minutes" to populate a calendar (anyone else see anything wrong with waiting a 'couple of minutes' for an electronic calendar? I could write ON PAPER faster than that), it's that the damned thing is maddenly slow. One minute you can run an app at what seems like normal speed, then it inexplicably slows down. You never know what to expect.
It IS as broken as we're saying; maybe yours isn't, but mine is. And so are a whole bunch of other people who are complaining on the message boards.
I gave up. CompUSA was offering 10% their PPCs (except a few HPs) so I bit the bullet and bought a Toshiba e755. Now here's a shocker --- it works as expected! And don't start any malarkey about how the Dell is so much a better buy --- it would have been if it had worked.
I think many frustrated users have shown a remarkable amount of restraint. What really makes many of us mad is that Dell initially denied a problem, then claimed they found it, but so far have left all of us in the dark as to when we might expect a fix. I e-mailed Dell last week about the problems I was having and have yet to receive a reply. But you can bet they'll answer the phone if I want to order another Axim...
Whining? No, moving on...

I like the forum - people express their opinions, desires & frustrations, that's one of its main purposes, we all have the freedom to ignore what we don't agree with.
To some people, $300.00 is a lot of hard earned money. The dissapointment can be great.
Customers should expect Dell or any OEM to maintain some standard of excellence. Releasing an untested product for sale is not good, very poor judgment.
Then denying that there are problems, to the very people that in effect pay their salaries is worse. Of course, when this is exposed on major web sites, then it is a different story, plausible deniability kicks in.
If you bought a new car and it would only go 55 mph on nice days (as well as all like models sold), would that be worthy of a complaint?
To all of you "whiners", please keep it up, sometimes you are doing a great service to the Axim community, forward progress is actually happening.
Now we all know, if you don't make a "formal" complaint to Dell, there was no recorded complaint. It's really a shame that Dell Axim customer support refuses to accept "official" complaints.
If their market share starts to slip and Dell management believes that customer support is a significant factor, you'll see improvements.
I really like my Dell, but I also feel the discomfort of those who got screwed. There is no acceptable excuse for this type of behavior by a major corporation, other than a public apology.
madmunki is a sw engineer - the very type that is responsible for this snafu. hmmm...I wonder

Nothing operates as advertised;
Microsoft Windows crashes, Automobiles are on recall, Planes crash, Guns jam, Printers jam, the titanic sunk....
Funny to think your 47 and haven't realized this yet?

Sad state of affairs when you accept mediocrity as the default standard
I'm 57, retired USAF, computer consultant and will not work for clients that have that attitude.

I eagerly bought an Axim about the time the MM2k3 upgrade came out. I ended up with a 2003 PPC and I'm quite satisfied. Maybe it's because I don't have a comparison to the 2002 version. It does feel a little slow sometimes but I've packed the onboard RAM with programs and data. Or maybe I'm lucky to get a working PDA. If not, then the update should make my Axim even better! Either way, I'm sticking with the Axim because it took me 4 weeks to get it and I'm not sending it back.
