Exclamation Update to Rom Flash for Axim!!!!!!!

Just got off of the phone with tech support at Dell.

Was informed that the long awaited ROM update, related to the 2003 OS/Firmware problem, should be posted on the Dell web site by months end.

That should also mean that production could possibly resume sometime in th enear future as well (for those of us waiting for our Axim's....like me).

BY no means take this gospel, since this information is coming from Dell and given their recent track record one can only hope that this saga will soon end.

Thought that I would pass this info on......

thanks for the info.

One of their canadian offices is not far from my house, if they are lying, i think i will go and spray paint GIVE US A05 on their building :P

Kidding, but that would be amusing

that sounds like good news..... I still am buying the wait and see stance (even though I have ordered the upgrade)

I say you take a pic and photoshop it.. THEN send it to them. somewhat same effect and less legal hassles ;)

I would say that probably the delay is something related to the distribution of the CDs or something like that, I would think that getting the firmware fixed should not take that long, so this explanation sounds reasonable. I also hope for it to be that way.

I just read a thread stating that members have been receiving e-mails informing them that Dell is not going to be shipping updates until 9/4/03. I sure hope that does not affect new shipments as well.

I called Dell Customer Service to verify this statement and of course they couldn't...no suprise there.

I have a low tolerance for this type of "Customer Care" and if Dell does not get their act together, they will have one less customer.

I've ordered mine and gave up on speaking to the Customer Care(should get them on the Trade Description Act on that). I've been checking the automated info line where you type in the order number and currently my delivery date is 14th August.

I ordered it on 11th July.

Are you all waiting for the 2003 OS software update or new axims?

IS the 9/4/03 the date for the 2003 OS update release or si it the new date for shipping of the Axim units?

Why can't Dell get their act together?

LMAO Star!!! That is exactly how I feel most times. Also, to the Dell employees (or other company's CSRs), do you guys have an On/Off toggle switch on the keyboard or something? :p hehe

I swear every time I call a tech line (which believe me is very rare....I try to leave this for just shipping/billing problems, or if I'm having problems with getting a signal on my cable modem...stupid DNS servers)....hehe got off on a tangent there. Anyhow, every time I call a tech line, I can hear the CSR typing about the equivalent of 100+ WPM for about 5 minutes straight....all the while saying, "Sorry for the wait, I'm checking the system to see what the problem is". There is nothing that would require them to type that much info!! My theory is you guys just have a switch to turn keyboard off.....or the lazy man's way of just opening up a blank Word doc and going crazy with your fingers. :p

I ordered a new Axim on 7/15. Yesterday, my ship date was changed from 7/28 to 7/31. I'm expecting on the 29th or 30th, it'll change again. I'm not as upset about the date changing, but why won't they just come out and admit the problems holding it up? Dell has to be the worst about that. A very similar thing happened when I ordered my Precision laptop - the order was held up, but no one knew why. for all of the inventory/manufacturing systems they have, you'd think they would be able to tell us...Obviously, we know the problem here - it's just the principle.

Until then, I'll wait and learn more and more about a piece of hardware I don't have through these posts...

ship dates

I agree, I ordered my unit on 19 June, my ship date has changed 12 times (and counting). BUT, there is hope...after many phone calls (none of which are responsible for any progress BTW) and near despair, my ship date most recently reflected shipping on 31 July 03...nothing unusual in and of itself however, NOW my "Delivery Status" shows the "Kitting", "Build", and "Testing" categories newly checked!! I am hoping that this idicates that 31 July 03 is THE ship date. On the other hand, it will not suprise me if the date changes yet again.
