"I Love My Ax": That is possibly the worst post I have seen in a long time. First of all, there is no such thing as the liberal/conservative split. Please see http://www.politicalcompass.org/ for more info on determining your political beliefs.

Also, your example is horrible. To equate the Iraq situation with a man running after you with a knife is absurd. I've pulled muscles in my fingers attempting to explain this, so I apologize for being short. I'm not going through this in detail. Iraq was never a threat. The reasons for sending U.S. troops over to invade Iraq to die was for oil, power, and political reasons.

I think a better reworking of your question is this:

You are walking down the street with your family. Suddenly Bush arbitrarily invades a country using your tax money and sends your buddies to be killed and do the killing. His explanation for the invasion is completely absurd, as even your 3-year-old daughter can see. What do you do?

Normal, brain-washed sheep answer:
- put up "Support our troops!" signs on your lawn.
- Scream, "Yeah! U.S. #1"

The thinking person's answer:
- Get active.
- resist the president's horrible actions
- get called an "unpatriotic traitor"
- truly support our troops by attempting to get them the hell out of Iraq.
- Have to explain very basic things to almost everyone you encounter.

Am I the only one that thinks FrstdOne has some anger issues that need to be dealt with?

You forgot the last part of your little scenario there....you'd hear the director yell "Cut!!!" and then you'd have to shoot the scene all over again. Say it with me---"I am not an action movie hero, I am not an action movie hero."

True. Very true. Everyone tells me that. It's an issue that my sponsor wants me to work on...

Ahhh....the perfect age to learn many things:

1. Actions bring consequences--post something as assinine as that post as expect there to be repercussions.

2. It's never too early to learn how *not* to be a sheep. (Baaa, this has no bearing whatsoever on actual political ideology but because it says something that makes Mommy and Daddy laugh at the stupid liberals then it's got to be funny, baaaaaa).

3. What the actual political ideologies in this country mean and the fact that they are not as cut and dry as most would like you to believe.

4. That it is possible to make a mistake (ie., posting something like that), learn from it, and actually understand why it was wrong in the first place.

Alright Kark, we need to stand back to back on this one....I'll watch your back, you watch mine.....they're going to start circling us in a second. :D

if I remember my history lessons correctly, the "allies" were taking one on the chin before the US got actively involved.

kark_1999, if Iraq was never a threat why are there 12 UN resolutions about their weapons programs?

On my anger issues:

Sure I'd be pretty angry and vengeful if someone threatened my wife and kids (or in real life, my girlfriend/fiance and dog). Otherwise, I'm really pretty easy going.

The REAL analogy....

The REAL analogy to 9/11 and this war isn't shooting the guy coming at you with a knife. That would be Bin Ladin and Al Qaeda. Shooting him would make entirely too much sense for this administration!

Nope, the REAL analogy is running as quickly as possible to the next street over, and shooting a guy there who vaguely looks like the guy who came after us, but in fact did nothing (to us). THAT is the analogy to THIS war.

Like it or not, we started a war with a country which DID NOT attack us, which WAS cooperating with weapons inspectors, and which had NO CONNECTION to 9/11 (hell, even republicans in congress and members of the administration now admit that Iraq wasn't involved in 9/11. Remember 9/11? The reason we supposedly are waging a "war on terror"????)

This war on terror WAS supposed to make the world a safer place. But I submit that to most Americans that was secondary. The PRIMARY reaons for our "war on terror" were a)-Destroying Al Qaeda and Bin Laden for what they did to us! and b)-Making AMERICA safer, and more secure...hopefully without flushing ouc civil liberties down the toilet...the same "freedoms" for which our troops fight!

Sorry guys, I want to kick ass as much as ANYBODY. But forgive me if I insist that we kick the RIGHT ass(es)! Doing otherwise is significantly less "righteous" an undertaking!
