BMI calculator?

Does anyone know how to add a BMI [body mass index] calculator into a Word file? Can this be done? Where can I find the formula for it?

For example, in our intake, if we input sex, height, & weight, I'd like to automatically get the BMI with obesity index.

Thanks,
Cindy

The National Heart Lung Blood Institute at NIH has a downloadable BMI calculator that just requires height and weight and has all the classification, etc. based on the new national benchmarks. Unfortunately it is only for Palm right now. I am a Palm user who just ordered my Axim today and sent email to NHLBI to ask about availablity for PPC. They told me they are working on it and I am on an email list to be notified when it is available for download for PPC. Sounded like it would be the near future. Just an FYI. Checked out the other website mentionend in the other reply but the classifications don't fit with the new NHLBI guidelines.

check out http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov and go to Obesity Education Initiative section.

Shank :)

thanks for the update

I also have used their program on my Palm but miss it on my PPC. Didn't know about the possibility to come to the PPC. I'll see about getting on that e-mail list. Thanks.

The commercial program "Personal Health and Diet Manager" has a built-in BMI calculator. I've used the program since the 1st of May and have found it to be very helpful in losing the extra pounds that I had gradually put on over the last few years.

I have the program on both my Axim and my desktop.

Anytime you see an error message like that, it ususally means you need to install it from your desktop. Just double click the .exe file from your desktop. You would have the opportunity to choose to install on a storage card.

Please post when NHLBI updates for ppc. The freeware program cited requires height, wt, gender, and waist circumference, so 4 items have to be entered for a 2 variable equation. Too cumbersome.
