I bought my AXIM before finding this site, but after finding the site and reading the tutorials and boards the wisdom of my purchase has been confirmed ;) (well, it was second hand and cheap, but still, I love it!).
This site is great.

I got my Axim as a Christmas present from my hubby, too. I found this site later, but it's been useful for helping me use my new gizmo.
Keep up the good work, Chris!

Thank you Chris and all the other members here. I found this site while researching. I was greatly impacted as I knew there would be a support system here. Thank everyone.! Now if I can just decide on a Wi-Fi router and access point for my new X31.
Grateful, but still feeling dumb newbie

Before.
When I was doing my research, I always typed in Axim reviews in Google:
I was mostly led to sites like PCMag, techtalk, epinions, etc etc. Once I purchased my Axim, I started to do different searches, like what's the best case, or axim accessories. And for whatever reason, I never googled "axim forum" until after I purchased my X5, which is how I found this site - I think this site was on the top 10 hit list.

I purchased my first Axim May 2003, my second November 2003, and the last one arrived this week. I have a 300 Mhz X5, 400 Mhz X5, and a 400 Mhz X3. I prefer the build of the X5. It seems more rugged. The X3 has a very "plastic" look to it.
For those trying to decide, here are things that could be pro/con:
1. There is a small "special" plug that has to be used to charge it without the cradle. (X5 has a separate socket in the bottom for charging.)
2. The backup battery is not mentioned nor accessible on the X3. The X5 has some flat batteries with an access plate to allow for changing them.
3. The X5 can take the small memory cards and the SanDisk cards. The X3 can only take the small cards.
4. The battery is more difficult to remove from the X3 for charging separately in the cradle.
5. Both have removable primary batteries and they are offered on the Dell website.
6. The optional USB cable for the X5 can be connected at the same time as the charging cable (if you do not have your cradle with you) for use. The X3 cannot (not the plug that was sent to me, anyhow. I note they offer another plug, but that is not what came with mine this week.)
Performance-wise, they seem equal to me. Testing is ongoing, though. None have wireless connections. Looking at getting a GPS system, though. I travel frequently to remote locations and would like something smaller than the Garmin Street Pilot I use. I have found several for the X5, but so far, none for the X3.

A few things, one the "small" cards are sd/mmc cards and sandisk are not the onlyones who make cf cards.
As for me on this topic, I agree with everyone who said they bought theirs before, but found aximsite to be an invaluble resource. I have fixed every problem i have had, and have made my axim a much more entertaing thing to use, even when doing work on it (which no one REALLY likes). Anyway, thanks for starting this site.

Chris: if you are still interested in this, you might want to move it to a place that people who dont use X5's generally go. But of course, if it isnt worth the hassle and you dont care anymore, dont bother

I bought my X5 Axim B4 coming to this site. I want to say however that THIS SITE has been the Most help around. Nicest moderators and other helpful members. I will be posting some questions soon to get help on a couple of other issues. BTW I have not had many of the notorius problems, ie sinsitive screen or debris or a warped screen either and I got 2 X5's at a class offered where I work on time management and they only cost $120 each for a class of about 25-28 people. I have not had ANY trouble with either one of them! Maybe I got the only 2 good ones that dell made! HEHE NOT!!!

Hey guys (and gals)!
I just grabbed an X5 on eBay! :approve:
It's a refurb, still sealed from Dell, and includes a 1 year warranty. I *might* have paid a bit much for a refurb, but it was cheaper than a new one from Dell (if you can still get one from them, from what someone posted yesterday), and considering they don't stock X5 refurbs at the moment, this seemed like the best solution. :)
Anyway, I should have it in a few days.
