Question GSM cellphone deals???

I'm looking for a basic gsm unlocked tri-band cellphone to use on overseas trips. I want to spend less than $100. I'm uneasy about buying one off of e-bay. Any suggestions about sites I should look at?

Have you looked at HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource. Also check BST forums. What's your location? There may be local retails stores that carry what you're looking for.

I'm on the West Coast and the local retailers with GSM phones aren't the right frequency for Europe. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check them out.

It depends were you are going, but you might want to think about buying one in Europe. Just today I noticed in the local phone shop here in Germany that they were selling a pay as you go package including the phone and 30 minutes of calls for 29.99 Euro.

I've done a bit of research on this as well and agree with Box. It seems that the cheapest options would be to get a cheap prepaid phone package if you don't already have a phone with the right frequencies, or bring an unlocked quadband (or triband if it has the right frequencies) that you already own and get a prepaid SIM in Europe. I think I will be doing the latter; I've already checked the locations of the nearest cell phone shop upon my arrival.
