Question PDA's, EMR's, and docs/nurses - thoughts and experiences

In my field of public health, one of the issues that I have been observing has been hospital and small practice use of PDA's, laptops, tablets, etc, to use with patient visits and medical record access. The field of "health informatics" appeals to me, since I am passionate about health topics and technology, and their intermingling. I have seen the sides of both the patient and professional in the ongoing struggle to adapt portable tech and electronic medical records into conventional healthcare systems and I would like to know from you all, what your opinions/experiences have been with this?

I hope to one day perform a research study on various usages of portable technology and its efficacy, in hopes of offering better guidance into the evolution. I hope to hear comments from caregivers and those who have seen things from the patient view, so hopefully anyone can contribute!

Have you talked to sargetalon? He's a much more experienced medical user than I am. Most of us medical students at my school use them to look up drugs and other reference info. Patient info is entered into the ubiquitous hospital computers, not our PDAs, and it's faster to take interview notes on paper.
