Learning Typing Software Recommendations?

Any recommendations for software to help my nine-year-old son learn how to type? I've been searching around a bit and have found many, many options. Has anyone--better yet, anyone's kids--had a good experience with a particular title? One limitation--my son does NOT want the program to be a game-like program for whatever reason. Thanks for the help:o

What about the bash shell? Learn some useful commands at the same time.

Try Mavis Bacon (SP?), been around for a decade or two!

My children used Maivs' program 20-25 years ago.
The program has a teachers' mode, you can monitor their learning and
add some ideas where needed.

That's a great idea--I remember that program, now that you mention it. I'll give that a try. Thanks, Tankman

Yep Mavis taught me to type as an adult - she was great! (However, I did "drop" her class when she got to numbers.)

Numbers? Same here! Seem a bit distant from the home row!

Although I did learn typing the old way, in class, I enjoyed honing my skills with
Mavis' program. At one time I was hittin' around 90 WPM! Today, pluggin' along around 50 WPM.

The ability to type helped me get some "soft" assignments during my four years
in the USMC.

When I taught the siblings to type, I had them write their assignments first!
A keyboard was no excuse for bad penmanship! :approve:

Staples often offers Mavis' program, free after rebate.
