I own a Honda Civic, and I'm guessing many other people do. There was this forum called Civicsite, and we had a lot of fun talking about our Civics, how to tune them up, do mods, add amazing sound systems, etc. We had a great time. Then, Honda quits making Civics, and the new hybrid cars are all the rage. So, Civicsite, seeing a need to change, becomes Carsite, trying to reach out to the masses. There are still a bunch of loyal Civic owners out there, but the too-broad approach of Carsite doesn't intrigue them at all... why, because it's way too broad. There's this new engine swap that Civic owners can do, and they'd love to share their experiences, knowledge, benchmarks, tuning tips, etc., but Civicsite (now merged with Carsite) says that's against forum rules, and promptly closes any related threads. So now, owners are jumping over to XDA-Civic and having a blast. Sure, engine swaps are risky, and a real noob could screw his car, but that's where the fun of being in a forum comes to be, and the useful advice of friends helps many make the swap. So Carsite tries to hang on - Ford and GM and even Nissan offer some really sweet prizes, and there's even a sweet prize from the really cool Porsche dealership. That's fun for a month, but Carsite is just too broad, too mundane, too boring, and eventually dies away. It's a sad saga... but I still love my Civic (even if my new hybrid is more useful at this time).

I have been surfing through Aximsite for a couple of years now, visiting it practically every day, and there was a real change that occurred many many months ago. Long before the merger of Aximsite and Mobility Site, the nature of the threads changed.
Yep - when Merkin, Pedah, Zaniax and a couple of other posters took the advantage to fully explore this social side of our community.
And - is it SO bad ?
Skip it if you dont like it - it's your choice - but as the ax activity is decreasing the hard core will still be swimming in the pool :p

I didn't say it was bad and, for the most part, I avoid those threads. The point I am making is that the focus of those kinds of threads is entirely different and not about Axims or any other kind of pocket pc.

I've taken the liberty of highlighting part of your post, Zaniax because this is the crux of the matter. It's a hard core of members that are posting and that core is dwindling fast: your own chart illustrated the fall in traffic.
I am the first to acknowledge that I enjoy a paddle in the social threads and I love the Politics and Religion Forum, but that never used to be the point of Aximsite for most members, that is why many don't post here anymore. Perhaps we should have got the hint when some members asked for a way to view new threads without the contents of the Water Fountain.

And if you ask an axim question, you will get an extremely helpful, make every effort, response
I have found that the tech help, comes more and more in terms of PM's, as does social interaction.

Big deal Dell stopped making the Axim. Quit whining about it & move on. All good things must come to an end at some point. It's not like they were going to make it forever! I am sad to see it come to an end myself. There just isn't another device out there at the present time that can compete with the Axim for the price. The stand alone PDA is on its last leg about to be swallowed by the smartphone/pda phone.
Yes, the site has changed but in my opinion for the better. There are always going to be the threads that pertain to one specific device. At the same time there are new threads everyday that are universal (WM5, WM6, apps) that pertain to multiple devices. I think the combining of the Axim Site & Mobility Site has made the site into a much greater resource for everyone.
If you think that things have changed for the bad then you are entitled to your opinion. Nobody is forcing you to keep coming if you don't like here anymore! I am sure the site will live on regardless.
I've always enjoyed coming to this site. I've asked a ton questions and 99.9% of the time received prompt, accurate and courteous responses. However, I know most of what I think I want to know and now come back for specific issues instead of just seeing what I can learn.
I think we need to look at what has happened. I know for a fact that I have began interacting with many people on this site, I would of never had the chance to meet without it. I would like to call them friends. For this reason alone I enjoy coming to the site. Most of the people who post here are great, and I will keep coming as long as they are here.
I even enjoy seeing what new tirade W.A.B.A is off on.

Well techincally, it isn't a new tirade... It is the same one, just at a different angle.

Let's allow discussion on how our civic owners with the little bitty engines can go down the street at midnight, break into the porshe dealership and steal one of the engines for their civic.
If upgrading to WM6 on our Dell Axim was not strealing an OS, I would have little problem with this. As it stands, discussion and instructions on how to steal WM6 puts me a serious legal bind. If that means my site is dead now and everyone will flee it's walls, sorry... I would rather lose all of you than get sued. Don't get me wrong, I would love for everyone to stick around and discuss other windows mobile phones and pda (which is the purpose of mobilitysite if anyone has taken the time to notice). I value all the members and their contributions to the community. Heck, there are some of you that I would stand up and be sued for, but not for hacking.
While I am extremely impressed that some folks got this to work on their Axims, it's not legal and I really don't want to have legal action taken against me for your 1st amendment rights.
In the meantime, for the last week or more, myself, the mods, an attorney, etc have been working on what the best approach to handling the ongoing desire of the members here wanting to discuss roms. I am not going to share where we are in the discussion until it is finalized, but I can assure you that it's not going to please everyone.
Nothing will please everyone.
And I have to ask, what corporate whoring of wares? Where? When? Who. WHAT THE HOLY HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? someone else asked where too earlier in the thread. The efforts I have made to ensure that this site keeps integrity over the years. The 1000's of dollars I could have made by allowing some shady ad methods and/or other things that have been proposed to me that I have quickly passed on. I get this? Corporate Whoring? I ask for an explanation to this claim.
Anyhow, point is, yes... Aximsite how we knew and loved is dying. This has nothing to do with not allowing you to talk about an ilegle rom. This is happening for a couple reasons.
a) Dell no longer makes the Dell Axim. The new base of members is not being refreshed. The core group has evolved many times over 4-5 years. Plain and simple... from 2005, there has been less and less to talk about with the Dell Axim.
b) PDAs in general are being replaced by converged devices by many.
Yes, i am sure the stance on roms has pushed several people away, but it's not as widespread as you are trying to get the community to believe.
I have put alot into this community and I love the site, the community, and truely appreciate everyone that appreciates the site. I am very thankful for everyone that has help out in the past and If the site dies because of not being able to discuss a rom, so be it. I am not going to adjust my moral compass to keep members coming here.

Chris, I get your point. But help me understand something. I don't understand how talking about ROMS translate to legal trouble for you provided that there's not links or how-to's posted on your site.

what do you think all the whiners are wanting to do?

I defer to Chris and the mods' wisdom on the question of the ROM issue. His post, above makes a lot of sense to me.
Chris, I also think you are right on in explaining why Aximsite it dying. I have visited just about every weekday for the past four years, but now I tend to post only when I am offering input to a relative newbie who is wrestling with software, hardware, or some issue that I have already taken on.
My x51v is pretty tweaked and mature, thanks to this community. At the same time, I know that my next PDA is going to be something new and very different, like one of those beasts from the HTC line. I enjoy the chatter and reviews about the new devices, for this is really the next horizon.
I, too, don't get the charge that this is primarily a corporate mouthpiece site. I just don't see it. I have seen some corporate reps give little hurrahs here and there for their products, but by far the majority of corporate posts are support-type responses to user questions and concerns.
As to Chris himself...if you want a great sense of his perspective, subscribe to the Mobility Site podcast. I really enjoy his comments about products and software for the very reason that he gives a hands-on, personal, user's opinion. I have never heard him hold any punches on a product. LISTEN to him; you can tell he is not that type of guy. And I just can't see him allowing it on his site(s)!
