I have teenage daughters and the hordes of others they hang out with... I keep hoping that they are just saving their brains up for the time they 'need' them.

I don't know, she may be a very bright person. I think the problem is that she was asked a question and she had no idea how to answer so she engaged her mouth before her brain. She knew she had to provide an answer longer than one sentence and she just rattle off what ever came to her head. I'm sure the pressure under the circumstances was immense.
Yeah, she went blank and just started to babble. Too bad she has to relive that one moment for the rest of her life. I'm not saying she would have been the next shuttle astronaut... wait, bad example...
If any one of us were in front of all those cameras and heard that question, who knows how we would answer? Well, I know we wouldn't be as creative as she was!
hmmm... she is miss south carolina, so she obviously has been in front of a lot more camera's before (and been true interviews and stuff), maybe she isnt retarded, but im sure its close :P
She redeemed herself on her Today Show interview with a sensible answer. Actually, she reminded me of a politician with a stock answer to whatever question they are asked.... hey, she touched on poor Americans, South Africa and Iraq, so she got all the talking points in.
I was thinking about the question she was asked today on my way into work....what IS the correct answer?
While I'd like to think I would do a better job covering up my ignorance about the question, I really don't know the answer to the question she was asked.

I was thinking about the question she was asked today on my way into work....what IS the correct answer?
While I'd like to think I would do a better job covering up my ignorance about the question, I really don't know the answer to the question she was asked.
The truth is, there is no right answer, some people will say its bad eduction, others will say its the lazy students of this time, while maybe others will say its because all the conquerings Bush is doing recently , that Americans get confused to wherever America lays....
The answer is just an opinion, and sure miss Carolina wasnt expected to give a totally catchy answer that would make the people of the USA think about it, she was just expected to give a simple opinion.
As for her redeeming on the today show, i totally found her answer a "if A respond A1 , if B respond B1" response with a1 and b1 being studied out. Also she still didnt answer the question, but went right ahead and gave a solution to the problem (wich indirectly was her answer to the question : that people aren't educated enough).
But she sure seemed a lot brighter.

Thanks for the explanation, especially the part about how to answer a beauty pagent question ...I guess you can tell I don't watch many of them, and, well, I've never aspired to compete in them either..... I do feel sorry for her...it will be a hard thing to live down. I hope she has a great sense of humor.
