Note to the iphone wanabe standing outside O2 in manchester

Its Raining

The store will be open in about an hour.

NOBODY ELSE is here

There is a Carphone warehouse store 30 yards away from you.

NOBODY ELSE is there either

There is a pub 50 yards from both of them.

If you really need one tonight, go in the pub and emerge at 17.58 you'll still be at the front of the queue, but you won't leave soggy footprints on the floor.

I was hoping to be at the O2 store in Liverpool, to see how many/few people would be in the queue.

Unfortunately I'm stuck on a train and will get there after they open. Its amazing how disinterested most people are about it. The early adopting crowd have unlocked US phones. Everybody knows they could buy one tomorrow.
(except for a few soggy people)

The advertising has been rather low key, its almost old hat and the fact you stood in line to beg to buy it is embarrassing. Its not going to be cool to own an iPhone until next friday

Orange is giving away a free ipod Nano with every contract today.

I cant understand why people would want a phone that costs so much yet doesn't have the things that so many other phones for less than half the cost (handset cost - not including the o2 contract fees).

Yes it looks nice, but I'd sooner a Sony Ericsson and a Zune personally... I think iTunes is an abomination of a software package and I'd hate the thought of being forced to use it too.

I have an unlocked iphone, and love it. It replaced my X30h. I use Mac, and only use my pda for PIM, photos, and music. So, it syncs perfectly into what I need one for. Best of luck for those in England who want one; I hope it all works out for you.

I take it that a little bit of poetic licence has been used on this story then.

Spot the iPhone owner without a missus... I win!!

I was in the o2 store in Rochdale earlier today. They had not one, but TWO employees giving the iPhone everything in an attempt to sell it to this one guy. Saw him about 30mins later... no o2 bag so I'm guessing for all the sales techniques in the world, nobody seems interested!
