Just wondering how many of you guys are running a 64 bit OS on your 64 bit system?

So, yes.

P.S.: 32 bit H/W with 64 bit OS? *runs*

I had the choice to install Vista Ultimate 64-bit OS on my Pavilion zd7200 laptop but I went with the 32-bit OS because I just don't understand what advantages a 64-bit OS gives someone.

One of the main advantages of 64 bit is the ability to process 64 bit numbers completely in hardware. It's mostly important for scientific and video work, but other programs like games can also take advantage. On a 64 bit system, D2X-XL compiled for 64 bit runs a good amount faster than D2X-XL compiled for 32 bit.

There isn't a lack of drivers, unless you are talking about hardware more than 2 or 3 years old. Also, what is this talk about software not being written for 64 pit processors? Every piece of 32bit software will run on a 64bit processor.

A 32 bit processor's maximum number per clock is 2^32 (4.3 billion). A 64bit chip can handle 2^64 (18.4 quintillion) size number per clock.

i didnt say that 32 bit would not run on a 64 bit system. i said most software is still compiled by a 32bit compiler. yes i know the advantages of a fully 64 bit system but most ,i.e. windows operating systems ,installed are 32 bit. and yes a huge percentage of computers out there are still running hardware that is over 2-3 years old...

I got my zd7000 in 2004. According to HP it wasn't compatible with the Vista OS. It worked despite of that. I might get a new Windows Mobile device every year or two but powerful laptops are a heavy capital investment.

Currently running 64 bit hardware and 32 bit OS (Vista Business on Desktop and Home Premium on Laptop).

I might move to 64bit sometime soon though, only time will tell. Havent really had a need/advantage yet in any of the programs that I use.

well, I checked 64/64 on behalf of my laptop, even though it is really 64/32 (Vista) and 64/64 (SUSE/Ubuntu).
