Movie-making software for Windows recommendation?

My son and I have been trying to piece together our various video clips, but we can't make heads or tails of the windows movie maker.

Anybody have a recommendation for a good, easy-to-understand windows software package for making movies and dvds out of camcorder segments?

thanks!

Honestly, there is nothing better than Windows Movie Maker. I have done some nice creations using that. Only downside is that it outputs movies in WMV, which cannot be converted to Divx or other compressed formats so easily (WMV is already compressed).

I have been looking for a similar product that has better options, and faster rendering, and free, I just couldn't find it. I am sure you will like WMM if you fiddle with it a bit more. It is fairly simple.

I mostly use Adobe Premere CS3. Personally, I think its the best editting program out there for Windows. It is a little costly, but you could settle for any Adobe Premere products and you'd be happy. They are 100% worth it.

Actually, wmv can be converted quite easily (why not?)

Just use SUPER at eRightSoft

Anyway, I use Sony Vegas, but that is quite complex. Movie Maker is probably the simplest for basic operations. Make sure you use the Storyboard view, thats easier for beginners.
