Is it just me, or do I all the sudden have more spam?
This is really starting to make me angry.
Ever since they let people buy one of those OLPC things, and give one to a poverty ridden country, my spam rate has gone through the frigging roof.
It's really just plain annoying because maybe people should focus on give those people food and water that is actually safe to drink. Not a computer.
IMO, the people who the buy one, give one program is suppose to benefit are not responsible enough to all the sudden have a computer with an internet connection.
I'm not trying to be racist or anything, but it's really starting to make life hard for me. And, it happened _right_ after they announced the program, so I don't think it is something else. It's also really nerve racking, because, I'm a mod for a yahoo group, and I have to approve messages sent by new users. If I accidentally delete one of the notices that says that I need to approve, than the users message gets suspended until the other mod approves it, which could take hours or more.
Is anyone else having problems with spam now that the OLPC has been released to the 3ed world countries?
I really doubt that that was the cause of your sudden rise in spam, more likely your email got picked up by a spammer or got on a list somewhere. Just remember that filters are your friends, I find that I can have most of my spam go directly to my deleted folder by picking key words and phrases.

WOW you should get spamed! I wish you do, you racist.
Why not use a half-decent email system/spam filter?
One of my work accounts currently has 900 spam emails sitting in the spam folder. Just for you, I've waded through them and there isn't one false positive. None of those 900 spam emails made it into my inbox either.
My other work account has never had a spam email - I don't put it anywhere on the web. Neither do I sign up to anything with it - I use a Gmail account for that. If you Google your email address and you find it, then you're going to receive spam. It's as simple as that.

best advice EVER... only ever sign up for things with a disposible email address.. never a work or home isp based one. that way WHEN the spam gets out of control just ditch it and start another one...

ABF Box makes a good point, I haven't sent you my spam lately but the boys may be on to the baiting site! It's really easy to get a user account and then go from there! OLPC over reaction!
