Another thing you could do is get a phone through your provider and then pay to have it unlocked professional. Usually a lot cheaper if your account is up for an upgrade.

My ATT sales rep even told me where I could get my phone unlocked locally.:hide:

lol, mine to. He gave me the number and a name of the manager at the place that he knows. Even called to make 100% sure they could unlock the phone (a brand new model of the Razr at the time).
Funny thing is though that most phones can be unlocked on the spot by ATT or you just have to wait a few days after emailing them. The thing is some phones have to be hardware unlocked which requires they go "in" to be unlocked.
For the most part though, you can get a locked phone and just call up ATT (or whoever), say you are going to travel internationally and need the phone unlocked, and they will walk you through the process.
Well, I don't think any phone that I can get from my provider or from AT&T is worth buying, then getting unlocked.
I can buy any phone from T-Mobile at "new activation" price, at prices you see on their website, since the contract is already over.
I can also buy phones from AT&T at retail cost, then I have to get them unlocked to use at T-Mobile. My wife is with T-Mo, and I am with AT&T.
Only phone that is worth looking at T-Mo is Shadow, but I just didn't feel it was sturdy enough or "lady" enough for my wife. Any suggestions?
I should maybe check what AT&T now has.

We went to the T-Mo store, and wife said Shadow looks good. It is $150 with 2YR, and $200 with 1YR contract. But I am not really sure about that. Phone feels like the sliding mechanism may give up after a few months and flap around.
Also, its start menu is strange (not the custom interface, that's nice), when you are scrolling down on menu icons, it sort of flashes the whole screen when you page down.
