Exclamation How much weight can an axim x50v take before it breaks?

If anyone asks how much weight an axim x50v can take, tell them less than 1/4 of a Ford Escort.

Should i buy a new screen or should i buy a new unit, preferably an x51v or what?

Yes, i misspelled should. I got it right down here though...that counts for something!

i will take a picture of it. Surprisingly, the screen is the only real damage. I'm going to fix it and sell it. I was given a REALLY killer deal on an x50v with a :approve:complete care warranty:approve: so...my bank account suffered

WHAT??? Christ, Complete care...don't act like i don't need it!!!

Anyways on to my replies...which i thank you for, despite having to trick you into reading it.

First, to all, I called a guy, and the guy i talked to did it for entertainment purposes. Yes ladies and gentlemen, he drove over his PPC purposefully. No, ladies and gentlemen, the government will not pass a law banning us from owning them due to abuse :). Believe me, the fact that i now can't buy myself a 37-40" 1080p LCD TV for Christmas, or a katana, is punishment enough. Now i have to ask mommy and daddy. that should be fun...i can just hear them now, "Why do you need a TV so big?" "You know how we feel about weapons!" "Who upset you this time?" "Are we going to need to save bail money again?" I swear no one forgets anything...:hide:

Spud, Star882 i like the idea, and i probably would have if i knew that i would have not spent all my money by the time it came out, but my desktop is touch screen and i've had several tablet pc's, from the IBM Transnote to the Intermec's 6642. Waiting for multi-touch capabilities to come out. I mean, seriously, if apple can do it....till then i'm down to writing apps for my P5 glove...

Scratchy, it was weight tested lying down i believe. Here is the engineer's report:).
<Engineer's report>

Some elastic deformation took place, but structural integrity held. However, as the glass had a substantially lower Young's modulus than the plastic casing, the stresses forced the dislocations together rapidly until it had massive fracture across the whole body of the material. If not for the screen protector and the touch screen, shards would have been everywhere. The touchscreen held though and experienced no plastic deformation. Mehcanically, everything worked, electrically except for the LCD and touch screen, everything worked:approve:. Device synced up fine. Results correlate with a separate independent study held by a private party who would prefer not to be named.
</Engineer's Report> (not all of us can do spiffy java like Star)

TheFang, i saw how you voted! :realmad: It was late at night and SPB Brain Evolution gave me a school boy's intelligence cause my driver wouldn't shut up because she had to talk about her feelings. Apparently women don't like it when you rename then based upon a bodily feature. Meh who understands them anyways (star, you know java, i don't think this applies to you)? I got out of the car, and it dropped. i didn't realize it until i checked my pocket and she had pulled out a bit...a bit too much. Le Sigh...funny enough, the day before she almost did the same thing to her MPx 200. Now, if it happened to her, that would have been funny, because guess who she calls to repair her stuff...for me it was just sad. I don't get to call anybody; I have to repair my own stuff. I want to be lazy too...

OH, but there IS good news! No, i already switched to Geico. I fixed my x5:). You know, the PDA i DIDN'T run over. I did do this to it though... I should do another one for my x50v. :)

I'm a little confused; you broke your Axim and you need our advice on whether to replace it - Why?

If that had been me, the decision to replace the device would have been made faster than the time it took you to type your OP :)

hehe, yeah, well, sadly my article that i wrote two weeks ago is yet to be published. Maybe i'll publish it tomorrow. It would explain my feelings on the current state of mobile devices.

the other thing was money. This happened the day after my chistmas shopping was done. it cost 2x as much got get a new PDA as it does a new screen. my dilemma was basically, should i splurge, something i'm hard pressed to do, or should i fix what i have. In the end, i splurged, lost out on stuff i wanted to get for myself, and laid out a game plan for the future.

But c'mon, it took me less than 24 hours to have another x50v in the mail headed my way AND create a game plan to economically fix my broken one. :) gimme some credit!

Come on genesisfacotr! I picked, "Buy a new screen! Be a good little engineer and get your tools out!" because that’s what I would have done! I fix all my stuff, why not a handheld computer screen?

FWIW I had my x51v in my back pocket last week when I fell on my rear end while climbing down a mountain and didn't even put a dent on it! :)

I'm pretty sure dell would take my dell for an exchange if i ran it over with a car...

Too bad I don't know anyone with a messed up x51v... ide take theirs, switch the backplate send it into dell... then switch em back when I get it back. And walah! your replacement part has arrived... that will be 100 bucks :D
