Is PS3 really worth it?

I have a few thousand points build up, enough to get a PS3 at half price. I was thinking of getting one.
What do you guys really think about it? During the last few years, I kind of got tired of playing games, and I believe it is due to lack of good games out there, and PS3 might bring back the gamer that I was during SNES days..

Especially, I was thinking of taking advantage of 5 BlueRay titles offer, which I can probably sell on ebay for about $15 a pop, saving another $75 there.

What do you think? Who owns a PS3?

Forget about PC, I cannot just buy a pc that can have similar graphics of PS3, just to play a few games. It may not be there yet, but I am not sure if there are some great games on PS3.

I'm a 360 fan myself but if you're looking into Blu-ray then a PS3 would be a good way to go.

The PS3 has the most advanced graphics and gameplay engines in the world. I myself will be getting one - once the price drops some more. By that time also, there should finally be some games out there that make full use of this console's extensive capabilities

360 is too expensive for me. As I said I can possibly get PS3 at half price, which makes it more appealing at the time.

I honestly wanted to hear what PS3 owners have to say, and what are the features/options they love best in the PS3 operating system. For example can you use internal hard drive to store divx/mp3/mpeg and playback? (with new firmware 1.20), or if we can use external hard drive? Or how about streaming songs/video over WiFi?

I find the game selection is horrible compared to the other boxes.

I use it as a blue-ray player, but the five free offer is very limited as to teh movies you can select. I did this and got five movies for free, that I will never watch.

As a $500 blue ray player that they may someday come out with more games, I bought it.

PS3 features? Um, I do have one game and the graphics are amazing (Ninja Gaiden Signma)....the online is free and worth every penny. It can stream media (like the xbox 360), but I find it lags between songs to the point of being annoying (that is using TVersity).

Harley, I saw that you can use external usb device, does that mean I can hook up my external hard drive (300GB) to play video and audio files, possibly without any lag between songs?

As for games,
I am not a big time gamer, like I said. It looks like it's got most of the major titles, the ones I had my eye on, ninja gaiden, fifa 08, assasins creed, GH3, Unreal Tournemant, are available, and coming soon, hopefully, Gran Turismo, burnout paradise and Metal Gear Solid.

try here

read the forums.. you need to read and search . join and ask a question they are helpful people. got my PS2 working with a 160 gig HDD and swapmagic. the kids have 60+games on HDD plus there are emulators and all sorts of things. if i could afford one i would get one but in australia they are too dear. still$700+ for a cutdown version of what USA gets and a smaller HDD....
i cant justify it to the wife as the kids are still too young for a lot of the games...

I own a PS3, and I love mine. I have just recently gotten addicted to Call Of Duty 4, and Assassin's creed. The firmware updates are awesome, and the graphics look better then the 360. The only thing I would like them to add, which they are working on is in game XMB, which would allow you to chat with friends, and listen to music while playing a game. The option to dual boot linux on it is very nice, especially because of the cell processor, which makes the ps3 fly. Also when you are not using it, you can run Folding@Home. They recently added DivX support, so you can watch high def movies from your hd.
-Tacos!
(As of firmware 2.10)
