We were all excited to be getting a Wii as a family gift this year. Several of my friends have raved about how much fun they were. My kids were elated to be getting on. Then...we opened it, played for 2 hours and it stops working (the drive mechanism would not pull in the discs).
No problem. These things happen, right? So I call Nintendo, get a replacement shipped ASAP. We get a new one in 3 days. Again, we're all excited; were gonna have an alll-night-Wii-fest. Then...we open it, played for about six hours and it stops working?!?!? (The drive will no longer recognize a disc is inserted).
We call this time, but since it is Saturday, and there is a holiday on Tuesday, the soonest we can get a replacement is Thursday; five days away!!!
The Nintendo techs have told me that to have one be bad is extremely rare, but to have two go bad it just bad luck. What do you think? Have you ever gotten a bad Wii or is it just Mii?
Update:
I just got a call from someone in Nintendos marketing department. They apologized for the inconvienence, told me that they're shipping a new Wii "overnight" (which means I still won't receive it until Wednesday because of the holiday), and they've included a free game for my troubles. I hope the game is something good like "Metroid Prime 3". :)

No, it's not just you.
We got ours last Christmas and when we switched it on - on Christmas day - all we got was a message saying "file corrupted" and it would go no further. Now how do you explain to a 6 year old how Santa could leave a present that did not work?
Anyway I got it exchanged, in Lapland I hasten to add, on the 27th December and all has been well since.
Stick with it because it's great fun and I'm sure you'll all love it.

Ours has worked fine with 2 small exceptions. Twice I have gotten an error message (can't remember exactly what it was) but we took out the disk, powered it off and on, and then all was fine. All in all it wasn't a big deal. Sorry for your problem
We had ours since last xmas, and works fine.
I am still waiting for DHL to deliver a Playstation 3 I had ordered, They keep delaying my delivery which should have been here by the Dec 24.

No PS3, what a bummer. That happened to me last year with a DVD set I bought for my wife. I ordered it in plenty of time for Chritmas. But the seller sent it at the lowest rate possible. The USPS took three weeks to deliver the package. I had to wrap-up an IOU to my wife for Christmas :(
Mine works great, as do all those owned by my friends. In fact with all the Xbox 360 issues, yours is honestly the first Wii problem I've heard of. I'm not sure, but I don't believe there are any large scale Wii problems reported (although, there always is the joy of getting a lemon).
I actually have a friend who bought one a year ago. He had to have it replace because he was seeing "video artifacts" on his display. However, his Wii never died; he was able to continue playing until the replacement arrived.

Now they have to send another one, but earliest now is Jan 2 or 3rd

I got a Wii for my GF for Xmas, took it out, set it up with 3 pre-teen nieces and nephew watching. I had to connect everything, then update via wifi. It failed to update the first time, worked the second. Then we tried to play the Wii Sports that came with it and couldn't get the disk to work. More family showed up so we had to put it away much to everyones disappointment. The next day I tried another game we had (grumble...stupid bundles) and it worked. Called Nintendo and was told (unofficially of course) that this was happening a lot. I guess a vendor messed up a batch or more of the disks. Nintendo shipped me another copy of the Sports disk for free. I was told 3-5 days but I think it only took 2 days, but then again they are fairly local. So my Wii wasn't truly broken but the disk was.
